The Issue Of Culture-specific Items In Translation Of Spring At The Cemetery By Chen Cang

The following dissertation consists of the literary translation of the first chapter of the novel “Blessing of Benevolence”(cn.“地下三尺”)by Chen Cang(陈仓),titled “Spring at the Cemetery”(“墓园里的春天”),translated from Chinese to English and the analysis of the translation,with special attention on the culture-specific items appearing in the novel.The theories of foreignization and domestication were implemented when translating the culture-specific items.I propose the familiarity principle as a way to resolve the disproportion and find balance between the two.The translation and analysis have been carried out bearing in mind the Chinese culture “going global” as well as the overall globalization of translation.It is hoped that,by the adaptation of the abovementioned approaches,Chinese culture can be further promoted in the West.
