Gansu province puts forward the guiding ideology of "skilled Gansu" to provide technical talents for the development and construction of Gansu in the new era.The cultivation of high-quality technical talents can not be separated from the study of English.The implementation of English curriculum in higher vocational colleges is not paid attention to,and the inefficiency of English teaching is often criticized.As the main body of curriculum implementation,teachers’ understanding of curriculum and practical operation level have a key impact on the realization of vocational education talents training objectives.This study is based on the five curriculum-level theories of American curriculum expert J.I Good lad.The research focuses on the level of teacher’s curriculum implementation,which contains Perceived Curriculum and Operational Curriculum.The level of teacher’s curriculum implementation can be characterized such four aspects as the highlighting of teaching goals,the processing of teaching content,the using of teaching strategies,and the selection of teaching evaluation.The study is intended to explore curriculum implementation by the mixed approach.The survey method is adopted to conduct a sample of 137 teachers of 18 vocational colleges so that the current situation and influencing factors of the teachers’ curriculum implementation can be comprehensively understood.Besides,the study analyses the problems and influencing factors of the curriculum implementation through interviews,classroom observation and physical collection.The survey results show that the main problems of current situation of curriculum implementation are as follows.In terms of teaching objectives,most teachers pay mainly attention to micro-language knowledge,but insufficient attention is paid to the cultivation of students’ vocational skills and humanistic literacy.As for the teaching contents,teachers can’t handle flexibly in preparation and the added material is mainly exercises and knowledge,the prepared material is merely adjusted slightly or even remains unchanged.In actual teaching process,teachers often adopt a negative-oriented deletion due to test guidance and students’ actual level.In the aspect of teaching strategies,teachers are deeply influenced by traditional teaching concepts,and they still combine lectures with general questions so that there is insufficient interaction between students and teachers.As far as the teaching evaluation is concerned,the teacher often chooses summative evaluation of examinations,and the evaluation subject is single.Besides,the English curriculum is relatively simple and the curriculum resources and utilization are insufficient.The key factors affecting the implementation of English Curriculum in higher vocational colleges are the complexity and low quality of students,the lack of support and guarantee of schools,the lack of teaching beliefs and the poor professional quality of teachers.Based on the above results,the researchers put forward the following three optimization strategies: first,to clarify the guiding nature of curriculum plan;secondly,to give full play to the initiative of the school;thirdly,to improve the professional development of English teachers in higher vocational colleges.
