In Japan’s Heisei era,with the collapse of the studio system,the Japanese film began a New Year,and a number of new directors emerged.Hirokazu Koreeda,as a representative of the new Japanese film movement,his films are mostly based on real events,and his poetic images are full of the spirit of humanistic care,with Oriental aesthetic color.As a director who started as a documentary,his works still retain the shadow of documentary.He is used to stand on the perspective of spectators,aiming his lens at ordinary people in life,and presenting the real world with exquisite and restrained camera language.His works are usually not judgmental,presenting the real and complex human nature objectively.His images usually involve the themes of "death" and "bereavement",presenting the redemption and meaning of life.He also has a unique cognition and feeling about family relations,his works are rich in life philosophy.His persistence and pursuit of this kind of image beauty reflect a director’s perception of art and a very high artistic creativity.Therefore,the study of Hirokazu Koreeda’s films is of certain value.The author takes Hirokazu Koreeda’s film works as the main body,and analyzes the artistic value of his films from the perspective of documentary aesthetics.This paper is mainly divided into five parts: The first part is a detailed discussion of the theory of "documentary aesthetics",which mainly introduces the theory of documentary aesthetics proposed by Bazan and Krakauer,and introduces the relationship between documentary aesthetics and film.The second part mainly introduces the creation background and experience of Hirokazu Koreeda’s films,and introduces how the documentary aesthetic style of his works was formed.The third part mainly analyzes how his documentary aesthetic style is embodied from the subject of Hirowa Edema’s film,and analyzes and discusses the film text with several key words(real world,humanistic care,etc.).The fourth part focuses on analyzing the narrative strategy of Yoshie Hirowa’s film,which focuses on the analysis of the film’s life flow narrative and prose narrative and other narrative methods,which also has the typical characteristics of documentary aesthetic films,Hirokazu Koreeda is also using such a narrative method to tell the story.The fifth part mainly analyzes the audio-visual art of Hirokazu Koreeda’s films,such as lens,sound and picture,to interpret the embodiment of the documentary aesthetic style of his works.Hirokazu Koreeda’s use of long shots and empty shots is mainly analyzed.The author interprets the use of shots in several films to explain the documentary aesthetics of his audio-visual art.
