| The Internet age has emerged a new type of online relationship.Modal words make the discourse negotiable and inclusive to varying degrees and have implications to the construction of the harmonious interpersonal relationship in cyberspace.The harmonious interpersonal relationship in cyberspace promotes the emotional communication among netizens and forms a positive and healthy network language ecological environment.Taking the modality system as its analytical framework,this thesis takes 125 emotional net-speak texts on Sina Weibo as the data and uses the corpus retrieval software Ant Conc3.5.8to conduct quantitative statistics on the corpus.Based on statistics and illustration of 125 emotional net-speak texts on Sina Weibo,this thesis analyzes the interpersonal meaning realized by different modality types and different modality values and interprets the ecological meaning represented by the interpersonal meaning from the perspective of eco-linguistics,aiming at providing references to the construction of harmonious interpersonal relationship in cyberspace and the formation of a positive and healthy network language ecological environment.Based on the statistical data and comprehensive analysis of the selected texts,the thesis has the following findings.Firstly,in terms of the modality distribution,most modal vocabularies in emotional net-speak texts on Sina Weibo show ability/potentiality meaning and inclination meaning;as for modality values,most modal words are low-value.Secondly,as for the interpersonal meaning realized by modality system,the ability/potentiality modality is frequently used with the word“jiu就”,“dou都”,“cai才”and“zhi只”to make the speaker’s persuasion more apparent and indicate the speaker’s strong subject consciousness,leaving less room for intermediacy.The inclination modality is frequently used in conjunction with the second person subject pronouns to express netizens’persuasive function,and netizens persuade readers to accept their ideas and follow their ways.In emotional net-speak texts on Sina Weibo,the extensive use of low-value modal words makes the discourse more negotiable and inclusive,reflecting the speaker’s respect for other netizens’opinions.Finally,in the ecological meaning represented by the interpersonal meaning,the negotiability of discourse and the respect for readers embodied by low-value modality are in line with the ecosophy of“duo yuan he xie,jiao hu gong sheng多元和谐,交互共生(Diversity and Harmony,Interaction and Co-existence)”proposed by He Wei and Wei Rong,which is conducive to building the harmonious interpersonal relationship in cyberspace,and plays a positive role in forming a positive and healthy network language ecological environment.The analysis of Sina Weibo discourses is of theoretical and practical significance.It verifies the feasibility of applying the modality system to the ecological analysis of texts,and expands the scope of the modality system research.This thesis also helps readers have a clear understanding of the role of different modal words,and learn how to use different modal words to properly and accurately express attitudes and views on love and life in cyberspace.Most importantly,this research reveals how different modal words exert ecological influence on the network language ecological environment in realizing interpersonal meaning and provides references for building the harmonious interpersonal relationship in cyberspace and forming a positive and healthy network language ecological environment. |
