A Practice Report On C-E Translation Of Hometown Of Pre-Qin Dynasty-Lixian County,Gansu Province

The translation report is accomplished based on the tendentious text “Hometown of Pre-Qin-Lixian County,Gansu Province”.This text mainly introduces the geographical location of Lixian County,the historical position of Lixian County,the important historical events that occurred in Lixian County,together with the mausoleums and unearthed relics in Lixian County.On the basis of translating the text,the translator has carried out the translation report writing and translation study.This research is mainly guided by the “Variation Theory” proposed by Professor Huang Zhonglian,combined with the difficulties encountered in the translation process,with the help of the solutions proposed by the “Variation Theory” to solve the actual problems encountered.The text the Hometown of the Pre-Qin Dynasty-Lixian County,Gansu Province frequently uses long sentences in the writing,and quotes more ancient prose and poetry,the language is tend to be classic,which is more difficult to understand.The purpose of this text is to publicize the target language,so that the readers of the target language can accept the information effectively,so the methods of literal translation and full translation are not applicable.On the other hand,the “Variation Theory” takes “Adaptation” as the means and“Communication” as the purpose,and the theory summarizes and puts forward eight kinds of translation techniques composed of twelve specific translation methods,which can solve this problem very well.In this study,the translator uses eight techniques,such as addition,omission,compilation,description,contraction,combination,imitation and modification.The five aspects,such as word,sentence,text,cultural feature,and poetry quotation are taken account.The translation of difficult sentences encountered in the translation of the text is “Adaptation”.The results show that for this kind of text for the purpose of information reception,especially the text language is more obscure and difficult to understand.“Variable translation” takes a more ideal translation effect.Moreover,in the process of text processing,the translator has greater freedom,and the recipient of the text can also read the effective information after translation,which is a kind of translation theory that is friendly to both the translator and the reader.
