In the traditional society of information transmission, apart from the official post station,Min Xinju, which handles civil communication, cannot be ignored.During the period from Daoguang to Guangxu years, the development of the Min Xinju reached its peak, and the total number across the country reached more than 3,000.Prior to the establishment of modern official postal services,Min Xinju, which was in the process of social transformation, was important not only in the communication of letters and fund, but also in the economic activities such as the delivery service of the newspaper, overseas remittances of expatriates, and purchase of commodity and lottery tickets by ordinary people. In the late Qing Dynasty, the official post developed gradually. The great powers represented by Hurd attempted to bring the Western postal concept into China. Then they took advantage of the will of the Qing government to actually control the Qing post, and controlled and suppressed the Min Xinju from multiple levels,so as to realize the desire of monopolizing China’s postal market.Until the period of the Republic of China, due to the contradiction between modern countries and traditional organizations,Min Xinju in the mainland were completely banned. However, the delivery methods such as passengers and letter ships were still in operation.Through postal archives, customs archives, official newspapers, overseas Chinese historical materials, diary collections and other materials, this article will take Min Xinju as the research object, analyze its service business, and discuss whose purpose of suppressing Min Xinju and the influence on post modernization.
