Professor Wang Chuming claimed that Iterative Continuation is a feasible method to improve the effect of English learning in 2018.Under this mode,students are required to read an English article without ending and they are asked to write the end of the article according to the given material on the basis of their understanding.Iterative Continuation is classified into Two-round Continuation and Novel Continuation and Two-round Continuation was chose in the study.Two-round Continuation provides students with two-round continuation writings and they can get feedback from the following part of original text.Since it was put forward,continuation writing has been widely concerned and studied,but only a small number of studies concerning about Two-round continuation,which focus on the effects on the improvement of students’ English writing scores and writing anxiety,few on relative clauses learning to senior high school students.This paper reports on an empirical study that applied the Iterative Continuation to English relative clauses learning.The experiment lasted from September 2020 to December 2020 for a total of 14 weeks.Subjects of the study are the high school students in Class 11 Grade 1 from No.1 High School of Dalian Development Area.Students were classified into three groups according to their English scores in senior high school entrance examination,which were high-score group,middle-score group and low-score group.In this study,students were asked to read the continuation material and finish the following checks afterwards,after correctly completing the checks they come to the step of continuation writing,which requires them to write a story that contains relative clauses as many as possible.The study adopted a pretest-posttest-delayed posttest design.Results showed that 1)the positive effects of Iterative Continuation are confirmed by a majority of students in the experiment.They benefit a lot from the task and the tasks arouse their interest of relative clauses learning;2)Iterative Continuation improves scores of relative clauses to students of different levels;3)the delayed effects of Iterative Continaution were different to students of different levels.The findings of this study provide useful insights for teaching and learning of English relative clauses.This study still has some limitations.Later comers need to extend the duration of teaching experiment and increase the sample size to make sure the accuracy of the experiment.Besides,the source text,the content,length and grammar structure need to be selected and modified more seriously based on students’ actual English proficiency.
