The conception of phenomenon in Kant’s philosophy has its development. It changed from a distinction between phenomenon and noumenon into a distinction between appearance and things in themselves. As the basis of the total knowledge of humans, phenomenon means something to appear. But the question of what it is,how it appears and why it appears are always unclear.Kant tried to answer these questions by the distinction between appearance and things in themselves, but his answers raised a lot of discussions. In the territory of the understanding,Kant made the limits of and secured human knowledge by that distinction;while in the territory of the ethics, this distinction made troubles. In order to secure morality,Kant must unite them.He failed. Then he put forward the phenomenon of the beautiful, which is unlike normal phenomenon.By studying such kind of phenomenon,Kant found a new way.In this way, maybe we can find an approach to cross the crack between appearance and things in themselves.
