Novels can promote the cultural exchange between China and the West.During translating novels, language, culture and communication are often intertwined. The author selects The Half-Drowned King(ChaptersⅠ-Ⅵ)written by Linnea Hartsuyker as the translation material. In the process of translation,in addition to the relevant culture-loaded words, the author finds that source language text contains a lot of dialogues between characters, which needs appropriate translation techniques to achieve the desired effect. In view of this, under the guidance of “three-dimensional transformation” of Hu Gengshen’s Eco-Translatology,the author applies six specific translation techniques: conversion of word classes, abstraction, annotation, rhetorical transformation, reproduction of tone and adoption of four-character structure, and thus shoulder the responsibility to consciously preserve and transform the original linguistic, cultural and communicative ecology as much as possible, which is also the present author’s innovative exploration of novel translation. The author hopes that this report can provide a reference for the translation of novels. |
