Lexical chunks are combinations of grammar,meaning,and context,and the form of chunks are relatively fixed.In recent years,many educators and researchers have paid great attention to the Lexical Chunk Approach,which has been extended to English teaching.However,previous researches on how to applied lexical chunks to English writing were still deficient.There were numerous problems in students’ English writing,such as Chinglish,mismatching,pragmatic errors,and so on.Researchers have applied lexical chunks to English writing and found that: Lexical chunks play important roles in the process of English writing,and the Lexical Chunk Approach can improve the learners’ writing ability effectively.And mind map was beneficial to creativity and recollection.It could help learners connect the fragmentary knowledge to expand new thinking and then visualize the thinking process.This study applies the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map to the students’ English writing.On the one hand,it promotes the research of the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map;on the other hand,it provides a new teaching model for junior high school English writing and helps teachers form a new concept of writing teaching.This study is mainly to deal with the following issues: i)the effects of the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map on the English writing fluency of junior high school students;ii)the effects of the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map on the English writing accuracy of junior high school students.In order to resolve the above issues,this study selected two parallel classes in a middle school as Experimental Group(EG)and Control Group(CG).The Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map is adopted in writing teaching in EG while traditional writing mode is applied in CG.After data collection,the T-unit is used to measure the fluency and accuracy of students’ compositions,and the software SPSS26.0 is employed to run descriptive statistics and Person’s correlation analysis.The major findings of this study are as follows: i)the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map can improve English writing fluency of junior high school students.For the number of T-units,the amounts of words and the mean score of fluency of the students in EG are exceeding those in CG,and the dispersion of post-test of EG is shorter than that in the pre-test.ii)The Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map can improve the English writing accuracy of junior high school students.The results show that the total number of T-units,the number of Error-free T-units,and the average score of fluency in EG are higher than those in CG,and the post-test dispersion in EG is smaller than that in the pre-test,which indicates that this method is useful for most students.In a word,the Lexical Chunk Approach based on mind map can improve students’ writing fluency and accuracy,and enhance students’ writing performance,which provides a new teaching mode of writing in the future.
