Self-portraits of female artists,as a unique art form in the history of Chinese and Western art,have their distinctive artistic characteristics and cultural connotations.Different from the self-portraits of male artists,the self-portraits of female artists in different periods not only present their self-cognition,self-imagination,self-expression,and self-awareness,but also convey their inner female consciousness.Self-portraits express women’s demands for their own spirit,emotions and life.On the one hand,women’s self-portraits reflect the regulation and restriction of the dominant social ideology on women’s identity,presenting a female image that meets the needs of society.But on the other hand,there are many women’s self-portraits in various periods that reflect anxiety about gender inequality and their own situation,resistance and dissolution of patriarchy,awakening of their own potential initiative as the subject,and the existence of true happiness and ideals.The way to pursue the gender awareness of other content.Gender consciousness is artistically presented in the self-portraits of female artists through body language,symbolism,theme appeals,and color emotions.This article takes the famous female self-portraits since the 16 th century as the research object.Through in-depth analysis of the influence of different historical backgrounds,social culture and life styles on female self-portraits,it tries to clarify the derivation and construction of gender consciousness in female artists’ self-portraits,and how female artists do Use self-portraits to express gender consciousness,what kind of gender consciousness to express,and express the demands of gender consciousness.The thesis is divided into five chapters.The first chapter starts with the question of what gender consciousness is,and explores the way of expression of gender consciousness in painting.The second chapter combs the emergence and development of gender consciousness in women’s self-portraits from the perspective of art history.The third chapter is based on the formation and development of gender consciousness in female self-portraits,and summarizes the four characteristics of gender consciousness in female self-portraits: body,symbol,theme and color.The fourth chapter deduces the demands of female artists to infuse gender consciousness in the creative process by summarizing the expression methods and content of gender consciousness in female self-portraits.Chapter 5 uses the above four chapters to study the gender consciousness of the self-portrait of existing female artists,to sort out the academic logic in the self-portrait of female artists,to enrich the expression style of feminist painting,to speculate on the trajectory of female artists’ self-portrait creation,and to treat women The artist makes bold speculations and prospects for the development of self-portrait art.
