Study In Female Image Of Gefei’s Novels Since The 1990s

Ge Fei is one of the five pioneers and an important academic writer in the history of contemporary literature.With his avant-garde literature,he rose to prominence in the literary world.In the 1990 s,he wrote a novel "The Banner of Desire" which describes the life of intellectuals.After Ge Fei retired for ten years at the end of the century,his three novel "Jiangnan Trilogy" won the Mao Dun Literature Award.The "Jiangnan Trilogy" takes the south of the Yangtze River as the background of time and space,and portrays the mental state of Chinese intellectuals for a century.The newly published "Moonfall Desolate Temple" is the prequel to the short story "The Invisible Cloak",which continues the previous intellectual narrative and depicts the living conditions of contemporary people.Ge Fei takes the male intellectual elite as his standpoint,and the main characters depicted in his novels are intellectuals.Regarding female characters,most of Gefei’s novels portray female intellectuals.He pays attention to women’s living conditions,especially the attention and description of women’s spiritual plight,which reflects the writer’s humanistic care.Many academic critics keep paying attention to the female characters in Ge Fei’s works,but most of the researches are based on the research of individual female images within the scope of the theme,and there is no research based on the female image itself.Based on the existing research results,this thesis analyzes and studies the female characters in Ge Fei’s writings through close reading of the text,combined with Western feminist theories,psychoanalytic schools and related theories of existentialism.The full text is divided into three parts: introduction,body and conclusion.The introduction of this article introduces the background of the topic,further defines the concept of female characters and female images,and clarifies the research scope and research methods of this article.The first chapter categorizes the female characters in Gefei’s novels,including four types of "Three Generations of Lu",women struggling in desire,tragic little characters,and ordinary people living in peace.The author is based on the text.Analyze these unique female images.The second chapter explores the motivation of Ge Fei’s shaping of these female images,mainly from two aspects of creative source and writing standpoint.The unique regional culture of Jiangnan,the influence of classical literature,and the rapidly changing era have all become the creative source for Ge Fei to shape these female images.And Ge Fei’s view of women and the elite standpoint of male intellectuals are also the reasons for the image of such batches of female intellectuals.The third chapter analyzes the artistic brushwork used by Ge Fei to shape these female images,mainly from the three aspects of narrative characteristics,the selection and use of special images,and the portrayal of female characters’ consciousness.The fourth chapter explores the artistic value of the female image portrayed by Ge Fei.Shaping the female image itself complements the male image and conveys the theme.The creation of the female image of Ge Fei allows us to examine the spiritual predicament of women at present,and then to explore where the spiritual development of women is.The conclusion part summarizes the main points of the paper and analyzes the limitations of the paper.
