| Previous studies have shown that although hand verb, being specifically divided into tool hand verbs(THV)and non-tool hand verbs(NTHV)are both processed with an embodied cognition perspective, the two kinds of hand verbs do have fine-grained processing distinctions between them. However, previous studies did not focus on language acquisition, and the comparison studies of Chinese and English. Therefore, this study adopts the RT from the perspective of the second language acquisition to explore whether there is a processing difference between the tool hand verbs and non-tool hand verbs. The specific research questions are as follows :(1)Is there a processing difference between the Chinese tool hand verbs and non-tool hand verbs ? If there is,will it be under the influence of different target tool modes?(2)Is there a processing difference between the English tool hand verbs and non-tool hand verbs ? If there is,will it be under the influence of different target tool modes?(3)Is there a processing difference between the Chinese and English processing of tool hand verbs and non-tool hand verbs ? If there is,will it be under the influence of different target tool modes? This study was divided into Chinese and English experiments, both using2(verb types: tool hand verbs,non-tool hand verbs)x2(probe tool modes): tool words, tool pictures)experimental design. The experiment selected 30 graduate students of English major in Sichuan Foreign Studies University as subjects. The experimental tasks are semantic collocation judgment tasks. The correct rate and response time data were recorded.E-Prime software was used to program the experiment in the key Laboratory of Cognitive Neurology in Foreign language Learning of Sichuan Foreign Studies University. The experimental data were analyzed by SPSS16.0,and the data were statistically analyzed by paired sample t test. The experimental results were as follows:The Chinese experiment shows that in the case of tool words, the processing of tool hand verbs is faster than that of non-tool hand verbs and is significant(t=-7.134,p=.000<0.05).The comprehension of tool hand verbs is also faster than that of non-tool hand verbs and is significant(t=-4.922,p=.000<0.05)in the case of tool pictures. There is a processing difference between the Chinese tool hand verb and non-tool hand verbs, and it is not under the influence of different target tool modes. The English experiment shows that in the case of tool words, the processing of tool hand verbs is marginally faster than that of non-tool hand verbs(t=-1.852,p=.074>0.05)although it is not so much significant and that in the case of tool pictures the tool hand verbs are also processed faster than the non-tool hand verbs and are thus statistically significant(t=-3.059,p=.005<0.05).There is a processing difference between the English tool hand verb and non-tool hand verb, and it is not under the influence of different target tool modes. It can be seen that there is a processing difference between the Chinese tool hand verb and non-tool hand verb and it is not under the influence of different target tool modes, and that there is a processing difference between the English tool hand verb and non-tool hand verb, and it is not under the influence of different target tool modes, and that there is no processing difference between the Chinese and English processing of tool hand verbs and non-tool hand verbs. |
