Peer-assisted learning is a kind of teaching strategy based on one-to-one peer-assisted group,which aims at effectively improving language competence of the English learners of different stages and levels.English morning reading activity is a kind of teaching activity widely carried out in primary and secondary schools in China.However,the current English morning reading activities is inefficient and fails to play an active role.How to give full play to English morning reading has become a new thinking of scholars and teachers.By combing the relevant literature at home and abroad,the study finds that peer-assisted learning has been widely used in primary and secondary schools,but there is a lack of study on its application in English morning reading activities.Therefore,the study guides students to carry out peer-assisted learning in English morning reading activities to verify the facilitation of peer-assisted learning on students’ oral English levels and English morning reading enthusiasm,and puts forward teaching strategies and suggestions on the application of peer-assisted learning.In this study,97 students from two classes in Grade 2 of a junior high school in Jiulongpo District,Chongqing were selected as the objects to carry out a three-month experimental teaching study.The research object were divided into experimental class and control class,with 48 students in the experimental class and 49 students in the control class.During the teaching experiment,the experimental class adopted the organization form of peer-assisted learning to carry out English morning reading activities,while the control class adopted the traditional organization form.The study process was mainly divided into pre-test,experiment and post-test stages.The study methods such as questionnaire,interview and test were used to carry out the specific research,the experimental data were collected and collated,and the SPSS software was used for comparative analysis so as to draw the final conclusion.Through comparative analysis of the experimental results and data,this study finds that peer-assisted learning is more beneficial to students’ English learning than the traditional English morning reading activities:(1)Peer-assisted learning has a significant positive impact on improving students’ oral English;and(2)Peer-assisted learning can mobilize students’ motivation and fully improve students’ participation in English morning reading activities.According to the findings,the study puts forward the following three teaching enlightenments:(1)In peer-assisted learning,the teaching contents should be closely linked with the students’ existing experience and life practice,so as to promote the students’ knowledge construction;(2)Teachers should combine peer-assisted learning with other English teaching methods to improve the efficiency of English morning reading activity;(3)Teachers should play a leading role in peer-assisted learning to ensure orderly development of the peer-assisted learning;(4)Teachers should train students in terms of peer assistance before conducting peer-assisted learning;and(5)Teachers should use the reward mechanism reasonably to stimulate students’ motivation,so as to help the peer-assisted learning proceeds smoothly.
