This translated report is excerpted from Chapters 2 and 3 of Metabolic Autophagy: Practice Intermittent Fasting and Resistance Training to Build Muscle and Promote Longevity.The book,written by Siim Land,explains how the body and metabolism work and then introduces scientific ways to lose weight.The original text explains the abstruse and complex metabolic activities of the human body in simple,easy-to-understand,vivid and interesting language.Although many terms are used,the author also uses a lot of idioms and daily life examples to elaborate.The selected part mainly explains the reasons for choosing intermittent fasting and how it works compared with other weight loss methods.The purpose of this book is to provide a scientific way to lose weight and promote health.This report consists of introduction to the source text,theoretical basis,difficulties encountered in the translation process,solutions and conclusions.The first section introduces the background of increasing obesity and significance of translating the source text.The second part analyzes the source text,including author,content and language features.The third part is the theoretical basis,mainly Newmark’s theory of text types and communicative translation theory;the fourth part is about the problems encountered in translation,including the translation of terms and idioms,long and difficult sentences and noun phrases,followed by the solutions to the problems.The last part is the experience gained from this translation practice and the problems to be solved.
