a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Fekinese Dialect is a Chinese-foreign dictionary published by George Carter Stent,who is a foreigner of the Imperial Maritime Customs,in 1871.It was revised and republished in 1877.After the death of George Carter Stent,MacGillivray made some revision and supplement of the dictionary on the basis of George Carter Stent,then he published the dictionary for the third time in 1898.a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Diaiect is a dictionary that records Beijing Mandarin,and most of the words included in it are daily spoken words.Through his own reading and accumulation,Gecrge Carter Stent has farmed his own vocabulury,which has also become one part of a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Dialect.The study on the a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Dialect can give us a glimpse of the development of the Chinese-foreign dictionary business in the era when Stent was in,and it can also make a small contributtion to the exploration of new directions for the development of contemporary Chinese-foreign dictionaries.This article adopts the historical literature research method to first make a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the life of Stent and Chinese learning related situations.The former one mainly based on two points-the life of Stent and his career development,The situation of Chinese learning is analyzed from the Chinese learning situation and the results of Chinese Then,I conducted a detailed study of the macro-structure and micro-struture of this dictionary,and summarized the advantages and disadvanlages of the it.Finally I explored the influence of the dictionary on later Chinese-foreign dictionaries in these two aspects.Through the analysis of his life and Chinese learning-related situation,we can conclude that Stent has a high level of Chinese language and he has unique insights into Chinese language learning,which has had a greater impact on his life development Through the research of a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Dialect,I found that it is a learning dictionary which is suitable beginers,thus summarizing the compilation concept of Stent This concept has had a great influence on the later A Mandarin-Romanized Dictionary of Chinese,A Vocabulary and Hand-book of the Chinese Language,Romanized in Mandarin Dialect and ABC Chinese-English Diciionary,which shows the value of a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Dialect.In addition,this article also analyzes the books that this dictionary may refer to,to give an accurate appraisal of a Chinese And English Vocabulary in the Pekinese Dialect.
