| As one of the well-known American avant-garde directors,David Lynch created a gorgeous,gloomy,dark,and mysterious fantasy world full of absurd imagination for the audience with his unique "Lynchian"image style.However,behind the guide tube and splitter,David Lynch still has unique creativity in other areas of art.It is not so much that he is a director with his own artistic personality,but rather an artist who conducts conceptual creation across media and fields.His painting is full of his unique language of expression,which also forms a complete and integrative creative system with his films and animation shorts.However,in the domestic and international research on David Lynch’s art,not many people could pay attention to David Lynch’s video works and paintings at the same time,not to mention a detailed image analysis of both.In fact,David Lynch’s lithographic and video works are surprisingly identical.They transform and presuppose each other,while jointly constructing the closed-loop of David Lynch’s artistic creation style,from the concept of creation and the expression of the form to the transformation of the medium.The artistic results then nurture and expand his own style—therefore,the vitality of life emerges in David Lynch’s creative chain,in which the interaction between “within the frame” and "off the frame” together constructs a looped art form.This article aims to put David Lynch’s video and painting creations in the same context for discussion and research.Using research methods such as literature research,image analysis and comparison,I seek to complete the image tracing of David Lynch’s artistic creations,as well as detailed analysis of the material orientation and formal language of his lithograph creations,and strive for a multi-faceted restoration of David Lynch as a "cross-media artist".The article is divided into four chapters.The first chapter mainly focuses on analyzing the audiovisual language,expression themes,methods,and language skills of David Lynch’s works for an overall grasp and comprehensive understanding of David Lynch’s artistic style.At the beginning of the research,I noticed the connection between David Lynch’s storyboard design and the paintings of Francis Bacon and Edward Munch in terms of style and language.Therefore,in the second chapter,I will specifically analyze the similarities and differences of the three art styles.In the third chapter,I will emphasize the research of David Lynch’s lithographs.The paintings analyzed in this article are mainly focused on 99 lithographs created by Lynch between 2007 and 2009.The form of his lithographs is abstract and the atmosphere is always dark,which indicates that it shares the same origin with his video works.I will also focus on analyzing the unique features of his lithographs in terms of material selection,schematic language,and their internal relationship with Lynch’s image lens,and try to speculate and summarize Lynch’s methods of creating the art system using his lithograph creation and other media creations.In the fourth chapter,I will elaborate on the inspiration and influence of David Lynch’s style,language,and creative methods on my graduation lithograph creation.His lithograph creation reveals the multi-faced expressive possibilities of lithograph art in the field of contemporary art.His creation made me realize that the artist’s selections of art media usually don’t stand alone.His lithograph paintings and other media interact with each other and generate more vitality. |
