English writing is one of the language skills that students must master.English writing will be influenced by students’ psychological factors,among which writing selfefficacy is one of the important factors.However,in today’s English writing teaching,teachers ignore the attention to students’ writing psychology.Cooperative learning is an effective teaching method and learning mode.Students are expected to improve their English level and writing confidence through the group consultation and discussion.Therefore,this study attempts to explore the impact of cooperative learning on students’ English writing and writing self-efficacy.Based on the social interdependence theory and self-efficacy theory,this paper applied cooperative learning to senior high school English writing teaching to explore the two questions of this study.First,does cooperative learning have an impact on students’ English writing self-efficacy? Second,does cooperative learning have an impact on students’ English writing achievement?The study selected the students from Grade2 Class18 and Class 20 at Baota High School as the experimental objects,in which Class18 was the experimental class,and Class20 was the control class.This research lasted for 16 weeks.This study distributed writing self-efficacy questionnaires to two classes before and after the experiment and conducted two writing tests.During the experiment,the experimental class applied the cooperative learning writing teaching mode,while the control class adopted the conventional teaching method.After the experiment,the researcher compared the questionnaire data and writing results before and after the experiment,and then combined with the interview results to draw two conclusions:1)Cooperative learning could enhance students’ English writing self-efficacy,and it had a positive impact on writing skill self-efficacy and writing task self-efficacy.In the aspect of self-efficacy in writing skills,students are more confident in the use of English word spelling,singular and plural forms,part of speech,punctuation and verb tense.As for the self-efficacy of writing task,students can complete argumentative and practical compositions that meet the writing requirements.Cooperative learning creates a relaxing and pleasant learning atmosphere for students.Furthermore,students’ English writing self-efficacy is cultivated through interaction and communication.2)Cooperative learning could help students to improve their English writing scores.Students take their own responsibility actively in cooperative learning,and they can find their own shortcomings in English writing and then correct them.Therefore,students’ English writing level is improved.In the end,based on the results,this study drew the following implications for English writing teaching.First,teachers are expected to play multiple roles in cooperative learning.Second,teachers are supposed to care about students’ psychology in English writing. |
