| With the global development of economy,the interaction between nations is increasing and English is playing a more and more important role as an internationally communicative language tool.English is a compulsory subject given by the Ministry of Education in China.However,English is also a headache for the postgraduates in Physical education.In order to help the students put English into use freely and effectively,improve the independent learning ability and fully understand the foreign culture to meet the needs of China’s social development and international exchange,the author aims at the postgraduates in Physical Education from Shaanxi Normal University to study the problems found in their process of English study and analyses the related reasons with the purpose of working out the practical solutions,which is of great theoretical and practical significance to both social development and the students themselves.The author adopted the methods of literature research,questionnaire survey as well as interview and read a large amount of relevant theoretical material from home and abroad,studying and concluding the related theoretical laws.Then based on the theories of Self-determination theory and Speech acquisition theory,the author scientifically analyses the present situation of English study for the postgraduates in Physical Education from Shaanxi Normal University,obtaining the three specific reasons why their English level is lower than those from other majors,including reasons for themselves,for the arrangements of courses and for different criteria.The reasons for students themselves are mainly related to their unprofessional and not serious learning attitudes;temporary and thin interests;unclear and impure motives;ineffective and unscientific learning methods;inadequate learning time and therefore unsatisfactory learning effects.The reasons from the arrangements are mainly related to fewer teaching hours;lower criteria for all kinds of tests;older and out-of-date teaching methods;looser relationship between teachers and students and fewer professional teachers.The reasons from test criteria are that the students in Physical Education can be admitted into university with a lower English grade(e.g.the average grade for the postgraduates in Physical major is 37 while the others 58);and that the daily tests are also easier for them to pass.On the basis of the analysis results through serious research,the author combines the present English learning situation of postgraduates in Physical major with the current social demand,and explores the effective methods positively in order to demolish or alleviate the contradiction between the tremendous employment pressure of postgraduates in Physical education and the urgent demand for high quality sports talents in current society with the proposals from three aspects-the Ministry of Education,educators and the postgraduates in Physical Major.For the Ministry of Education,suitable criteria should be set for the students of Physical major;training programs should be optimized;studying and teaching management should be strengthened;more professional teachers should be equipped.For the educators,they should update their teaching methods;adjust the arrangements of courses to guarantee enough teaching hours and new fashionable teaching materials;and above all,the teachers should always focus on the students to help them learn how to learn with the aid of creative methods and flexible teaching techniques.For the students themselves,they should be aware of the importance of learning English and improving themselves;they should also turn their passive attitudes into active attitudes consciously.To sum up,there exist difficulties and problems in the process of English study for the students in Physical education major.However,for the sake of social development,the progress of physical cause and the personal development for the students themselves,we must work together to overcome the present difficulties and struggle to train the talents with high comprehensive quality. |
