The source text of this translation practice is selected from the first part of Departure from the Book of Boy.The book, written by Catherine Gilbert Murdock, was named a 2019 Newbery Honor Book and made a slew of Best of the Year lists.Setting in medieval France,it tells about adventures of Boy and Secundus to find seven relics: rib, tooth, thumb, toe, dust, skull, and tomb.It is filled with charismatic characters, daring deeds, and young readers feel inspired like Boy who ultimately learns to love and accept himself for who he is.The story sneaks lessons and morals into children?s stories, which is suitable to young adults. The translation report is mainly based on the relevance translation theory put forward by Ernst-August Gutt. The translator analyzes the translation problems in The Book of Boy from two aspects in order to maximize interpretive resemblance:obtaining the greater contextual /cognitive effect and the smaller the processing effort. To acquire greater contextual / cognitive effect, the translator adopts direct translation and indirect translation. That not only retains the communicative clues of the original text, but also corresponds with the characteristics of children?s egocentric speech from developmental psychologist Jean Piaget?s cognitive development theory. In order to help the target readers(young adults)to obtain adequate information on the source text with least processing efforts, the translator combines addition with reduplication and onomatopoeia. These translation strategies not only meet the expectations of interpretive resemblance for young adults, but also help reproduce the characteristics of children?s language to strengthen their interest in reading. The main goal of the translation is to preserve communicative clues of the text,to maximum interpretive resemblance in the relevance translation approach, and to make the target readers enjoy reading and acquire knowledge, which can make entertainment a medium of education.
