Cognitive Reference Point Theory To Meaning Construction Of N Zhong De(中的) N In Chinese Noun Repetition Construction

N zhong de(中的)N construction is a noun repetition construction and belongs to tautology.The unique feature of this construction is that NF and NP have the same form but different meanings.Previous studies have focused on static semantic description,diachronic construction,and subjective expression of maximal quantity.However,the studies from the above three angles are limited to the analysis on the maximal quantity of NP,which rarely summarize semantic relationships between NF and NP and puts them in cognitive reference activity to analyze meaning construction of N zhong de(中的)N construction.This thesis qualitatively and quantitatively analyzes collected 241 data from CCL and BCC under the framework of cognitive reference point.This thesis summarizes semantic relationships between NF and NP and cognitive reference activity models to reveal meaning construction of N zhong de(中的)N construction.The main contents of this thesis are as follows:1.Considering CRP theory,this thesis divides the semantic relationships between NF and NP in 241 data into three main kinds.First,the whole-part relationship.Second,the category-property relationship.Third,comparison relationship.Among them,category-property relationship is divided into four secondary relationships: the relationship between people/things and explicit properties;the relationship between people/things and intrinsic properties;the relationship between people/things and additional properties;the relationship between people/things and analogical properties.2.This thesis analyzes cognitive reference activity models to show meaning construction by three semantic relationships between two nouns in N zhong de(中的)N construction.As the following sheet shows,each cognitive reference model matches one semantic relationship between two nouns.Direct reference activity model regards NF as the whole and directly accesses NP.Embedded reference activity model I regards NF as a reference point.NP is reached by the explicit property of NF.Embedded reference activity model II regards NF as a reference point and then activates the intrinsic property domain to access NP.Embedded reference activity model III regards NF as the reference point to access NP,and then accesses additional property domain.Chained reference model regards NF as the reference point which firstly reach the intersection area of NF and NP,and then reach NP.Comparative reference activity model regards NF as the reference point to access the first compared object and then the path accesses NP,which will reach the second compared object.To sum up,cognitive reference is the basis of meaning construction of N zhong de(中的)N construction,and semantic relationships between nouns are the basis of cognitive reference.Its construction process is to establish the semantic relationships between the two repeated nouns.The interpreter constructs the meaning of N zhong de(中的)N construction by taking the whole concept of NF as the reference point and ensuring the target though the matching between NP and contexts.The major contributions of this thesis are:concluding semantic relationships between nouns;explaining meaning construction process of N zhong de(中的)N construction from cognitive reference point when semantic relationships between nouns correspond to cognitive reference activity models.
