The Study Of Vietnamese National Character In Vietnam’s Critical Realism Literary Works (between 1930-1945)

China and Vietnam have a very special historical relation since ancient times.In recent years,the relation between the two is getting closer and closer and the non-governmental and cultural exchanges are also increasing significantly.Under such a background,it is necessary to deeply understand the Vietnamese national character,conduct friendly exchanges with the Vietnamese people,and deepen the mutual trust between the peoples of China and Vietnam.It is known to us that excellent national literary classics often reflect and imply the typical characteristics of national character,especially the critical realism literary works based on the objective,concrete and historical description of real life.Therefore,by focusing on the period from 1930 to 1945 when Vietnamese critical realism literature came into being and developed rapidly,this paper skillfully combines Vietnamese national character with Vietnamese critical realism literary works,so as to analyze and study the modern Vietnamese national character and its forming reasons.The paper is mainly divided into 5 chapters to study the Vietnamese national character in Vietnam’s critical realism literary works from 1930 to 1945.On the basis of defining the term ―national character‖,chapter 1 analyzes the relation between national character and critical realism literary works.Chapter 2 summarizes the development of Vietnam’s critical realism literary works from 1930 to 1945,of which including the social background of Vietnam from 1930 to 1945,the formation and development of Vietnam’s critical realism literature,and the representative writers and works of Vietnam’s critical realism literature in this period.Using the theory of typical common name in the typical theory,chapter 3 and 4 take five representative Vietnamese critical realism literary classics of this period,namely Kep Tu Ben,The last Road,Light Out,Dumb Luck and Chi Pheo,as the sample of analysis.It analyzes the national character of the characters in these literary works comprehensively and deeply through the method of seeing big things from small ones and two sides of things,so as to summarize the excellent qualities of the modern Vietnamese nation,that is,attaching importance to emotion and justice,openness and tolerance,and the spirit of resistance;and three kinds of deep-rooted bad habits,namely,laziness,extremeness,and egoism.The discussion of modern Vietnam’s national character is placed in the time subject space coordinate system of Vietnam’s cultural construction theory,chapter 5 analyzes the causes of the formation of modern Vietnam’s national character from the four aspects of history,natural geographical environment,social economy and culture,and reveals the causes of the formation of modern Vietnam’ s national character from the root.The main historical reason is the special historical origin among China,France and Vietnam;the reasons of natural geographical environment include geographical location and topography,climate and resources;the social and economic reasons are mainly the formation of petty bourgeoisie;the cultural reasons include the formation and development of village culture and masculine culture,the influence of Chinese culture represented by Confucian culture and other cultures,these are the important reasons for the formation of modern Vietnamese national character.Generally speaking,taking Vietnam’ s critical realism literary classics as the research media,the study of Vietnam’ s national character will not only promote the overall development of Vietnamese language and culture research,but also further deepen the mutual understanding and exchange between China and Vietnam,and promote the sustainable and stable development of friendly relations between China and Vietnam as well.
