A Study On The Defamiliarization Art Of The Narrative In Allan Poe’s Short Stories

Edgar Allan Poe(1809--1849)was a famous American poet,novelist and literary critic in the 19 th century.Although he only lived forty years old,in a short life,he wrote more than 50 poems,three important poetry theories and more than 70 short stories.His achievements in short stories are quite high,and he is recognized as a pioneer of horror and detective novels.Many of his short stories are based on the theme of horror and are full of horror.They have a unique and spiritually horrible charm,which achieves the "spiritual" horror effect he hopes.Analyzing and generalizing the defamiliarization art of Allan Poe’s short story narration will help readers understand how Allan Poe uses his super writing skills to achieve a "spiritual" horror effect,and how to make his horror novels exude unique charm.This article intends to use the related theories of narratology and defamiliarization to study Poe’s short stories.This article is composed of three chapters.The first chapter introduces the related theories of defamiliarization and narratology,as well as the current situation of the narrative research of Allan Poe’s short stories.The second chapter sorts out the narrative perspective in Allan Poe’s short stories,analyzes Poe’s defamiliarization of the first-person narrative perspective,and the horror effect caused by it;The third chapter sorts out the narrative structure of Allan Poe’s short stories,and analyzes the alienation of the plot in Allan Poe’s short stories,the clever placement of suspense,the magical use of the introduction,and the horror effect formed by it.Through combing and analyzing the narrative perspective and narrative structure of Allan Poe’s short stories,it helps us discover the defamiliarization law of his short story narration,and feel the superb writing skills of Allan Poe and this kind of "spiritual" scary charm which conveyed by his horror novels.
