The most important purpose of education is to help all educational participants to pursue their "true happiness",which is an important criterion in the preface of Teaching for Happiness written by Professor Tan Chuanbao from the Department of Education,Beijing Normal University.Zhu Yongxin also puts forward that the goal of the new education is to lead a happy and complete educational life,which includes the happiness of both students and teachers.However,in real life,we often talk more about students than teachers.Without happy teachers,how can we arouse happy students? As a senior high school English teacher who has been teaching for eight years,I have seen some colleagues complain about their hard work,while some colleagues are full of passion and enjoy their current teaching life.I therefore choose high school English teachers’ occupational happiness as the research object.The final aim is to live in a kind of ideal education,to jointly build a harmonious campus,and to create and enjoy the happiness of education.I chose high school English teachers in Guangyuan as the research object,and designed the index system of English teachers’ occupational happiness.Then I obtained the firsthand materials by means of questionnaire and interview.Finally,I analyzed the uniqueness of the high school English teachers from a gender perspective,and drew the following conclusions:1.The author has learned that the overall status of occupational happiness of senior high school English teachers in Guangyuan city,Sichuan province is much better than we originally expected.A total of 64.43% of the teachers consider their occupation to be relatively happy,which means that nearly 40% of them suffer from job burnout.Some teachers even give up the occupation if they have another choices.On the whole,male teachers have a stronger sense of occupational happiness than female teachers.From the perspective of gender,the occupational happiness of teachers of different ages,different educational backgrounds,different professional titles,different positions and different incomes also varies greatly.2.There are many factors that affect teachers’ professional happiness.The author demonstrates from two categories: teachers’ own problems and the limitation of external environment.The problems of teachers themselves mainly include five aspects: low identity,insufficient professional investment,poor physical and mental health,tense interpersonal relationship and lack of life planning.The limitations of the external environment mainly includes the national welfare policy isn’t in place,the expectation of social requirement isn’t satisfied,the regulation of the government is inflexible,the school’s management mechanism is too rigid,the conflict between family and work is embarrassing,the confrontation between students’ parents and teachers is disappointing,the students’ weak foundation is far from expectation and English’vital role and high requirement is unique.3.Finally,we can improve teachers’ occupational happiness from two aspects: continuous improvement of teachers and strong support from the external environment.From the perspective of the continuous improvement of teachers,efforts can be made in five aspects:improving identity,increasing occupational input,drawing attention to both physical and mental health,adjusting to the working environment,and seeking self-realization.From the perspective of strong support from the external environment,we can start from seven different subjects: the state provides legal protection for teachers,the society creates a harmonious atmosphere for teachers,the government provides training opportunities for teachers,the school builds a development platform for teachers,the family offers a warm harbour for teachers,parents relieve the worries for teachers,and students light the hope for teachers.Teachers’ happiness is related to the well-being of students,students is the future of the motherland,is related to the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and struggle,so teachers are happy to teach,not only for their own happiness,but also responsible for the healthy growth and lifelong development of students,the whole society will therefore become more harmonious and beautiful.
