The Study On Parallel Phenomenon In Tang Legend

As a representative of Chinese classical novels,Tang legend developed from the mystery of the Six Dynasties.The metamorphosis occurred in the Tang dynasty,which can be called “the wonder of the generation” together with "Metrical Poem".Moreover,as a representative of the prose of the Six Dynasties,which was characterized by "Literature From Generation to Generation",the parallel prose has great development since the Six Dynasties and developed in the Tang Dynasty.Although,these are a blend of two different styles,they both intersected in the Tang Dynasty along their respective paths,which is reflected in the use of parallel style in the Tang legend.This paper is going to research on the parallel prose in the Tang legend.And then elaborates the specific phenomenon,probes into the reasons behind it and its influence.This article starts with the discussion on the types and functions of parallel style in Tang legend.This paper first sorts out the types of parallel style in Tang legend,and divides it into three categories: one is to use parallel style throughout,the other is to use parallel style concurrently,and the third is to use special style together.Secondly,it discusses the function of parallel style in Tang legend.Its function is roughly the use of scenery,the use of people,reasoning with.The article then stages the parallel style in Tang legend from a macro point of view and analyzes the reasons behind it.By reviewing the application of parallel style in Tang legend and combining previous studies,this paper divides the application of parallel style in Tang legend into three periods.In the early stage,influenced by the style of parallel writing in the Six Dynasties,parallel style entered the Tang legend.In the middle period,using of parallel style in the Tang legend showed a declining transcendence.Due to the influence of “Gu Wen Movement” in the prose areas,the style of the Tang legend showed a trend that,subduction of parallel style and increase of prose.The parallel style in Tang legend revived again,absorbing the strengths of the earlier Tang legend and developing somewhat.This is a synchronous trend with the revival of parallel prose in the late Tang dynasty,which is the result of the interaction between Tang legend and parallel prose.Thirdly,the article discusses the reasons why Tang legend use parallel style.Both from the outside and from the inside.In terms of external reasons,Tang legend used parallel style was influenced by the imperial examination system of Tang Dynasty.On the one hand,the stylistic tendency of using parallel style in the “Imperial Examination” influenced Tang legend.On the other hand,the system of “Xing Juan” promoted the application of the parallel style in Tang legend.In terms of internal reasons,the use of parallel style in Tang legend is related to the writers and Tang legend’s style.First,the multiple identities of Tang legend’s writers are usually literati with higher literary accomplishment.These scholars have the status of Tang legend’s writers,writers of parallel prose,prose writers,poets,who promoted the use of parallel style in Tang legend.On the other hand,Tang legend’s writers have a conscious awareness to improve the quality of Tang legend.Tang legend’s writers put forward higher requirements for the creation of Tang legend’s,reflecting the idea of the respect for the style to a certain extent.Finally,the article discusses the influence of Tang legend on the novels of later generations.The first is the trend of novel’s dualization,which began from the biography of Tang dynasty,and the use of parallel style in novels runs through the whole development of Chinese classical novels,which are all shown as the characteristics of novel’s dualization.The second was the parallel style novel which began to appear in Tang legend,mainly represented by Zhang Zhuo’s "You Xian Ku" and Pei Xing’s "Feng Zhi" in "Chuan Qi" in late Tang dynasty and "Yan Shan Wai Shi" by Chen Qiu in Qing dynasty when the Chinese classical novel reached its peak,which were all the masterworks of them.
