Written in the 20 th year of the reign of Zhenguan(646 AD),The Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty is a classic masterpiece written by the famous monk Xuanzang himself and recorded by his disciples.The volume is voluminous and rich in content.It not only recorded the geography,local customs,politics and culture of the western regions,but also recorded the history of Indian Buddhism.It provides important literature value for the study of human geography and early Buddhism in Central Asia and South Asia.Based on "the datang western region(hereinafter referred to as" western ")in the " dragon " as the research object,by comparing the datang western regions " of the " dragon " and " dragon " in Chinese Buddhism differences as the breakthrough point,use of philology and historical research methods,from the perspective of religious studies the character of " dragon " in the buddhist deity system.This paper consists of five parts.The first part is the introduction,which explains the background of the topic,the current research situation at home and abroad,the research ideas and the innovative points of this paper.The first chapter is the image analysis of the "dragon" in "The Records of the Western Regions of the Tang Dynasty".Firstly,the "dragon" in "The Records of the Western Regions" is classified,and on this basis,the divinity,responsibility and status of the "dragon" are summarized and sorted out by enumerating specific stories.The second chapter is about the origin of the Buddhist "dragon" in the book "Western Region Records of the Tang Dynasty".Firstly,it studies the story of "Brahmanic Fire Dragon" and "Prince in the Bath of Two Dragons".Secondly,it discusses the relationship between its inheritance and development from the aspects of Buddhism’s "Nāga" belief in Brahmanism and Buddhism’s "Snake God" belief in ancient India.The third chapter examines the divinity of the Buddhist "dragon" in "The Western Region of the Tang Dynasty".Firstly,it studies the origin of the divinity from the early mythical stories.Secondly,it probes into the development and evolution process of the divine power of "dragon" from the Buddhist "Nāga".The fourth chapter is "the datang western region" to see the evolution of the "dragon" of Buddhism holy and status,this part firstly examines "dragon" in the western region,clerical,secondly from Buddhism in India "Nāga priesthood" inheritance and transformation and Buddhism to the Indian brahmans "Nāga" inheritance and transformation aspects of status analysis of the "dragon" in Buddhism holy and status of the process of evolution.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part,which summarizes the analysis of this paper and puts forward the future research direction.
