Kazuo Ishiguro is a well-known immigrant writer in contemporary Britain.He won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017.Kazuo Ishiguro is rich in creation and has written many novels.And his works have been praised all over the world for the wide range of subjects,delicate brushwork and profound themes involved.Not only that,he,along with Rushdie and Naipaul,is also known as the "three outstanding immigrants" in the British literary world.Kazuo Ishiguro is unwilling to call himself an immigrant writer.He regards himself as an "internationalist writer",claiming to use a global perspective to create.He believes that literary creation should not be confined to one place or one country,so in his novels,the boundaries of geographical location are usually blurred,and the common problems of mankind in modern society are revealed through novels,and his responsibility as a worldwide writer is expressed.This thesis mainly takes Kazuo Ishiguro’s three novels "A Pale View of Hills","The Remains of the Day",and "Never Let Me Go" as the research objects.Through the analysis of the text of the novel,it studies the moral identity crisis of the characters in the process of social development and changes,and their performance in the process of this crisis,so as to deepen the moral identity problem in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels.This paper is mainly divided into three parts: introduction,body and conclusion.The first part mainly elaborates the related concepts of moral identity theory and the main research content of this article.The main text contains three chapters:Chapter One mainly studies the reasons for the moral identity problem in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels.This reason is mainly due to the war violence in the process of social development,the dual cultural state caused by immigration reasons,and related to this.The state of losing roots.By analyzing the background of the novel,we can deeply explore the reasons behind this crisis;Chapter Two mainly analyzes the performance of the characters in Kazuo Ishiguro’s novels in the moral identity crisis.The deepest manifestation of the struggle and exploration of the characters in the novel after experiencing the moral identity crisis lies in the moral aspect.Through careful reading of the text,we can summarize this process of change,which also shows that Kazuo Ishiguro,as a writer with a humanitarian spirit,has sympathy for characters in a moral identity crisis;Chapter Three mainly discusses morality reconstruction of identity.Kazuo Ishiguro’s moral identity reconstruction mainly lies in three aspects:the author’s moral identity,the reconstruction of group moral identity and the prospect of future moral identity.This research reflects the widespread confusion and anxiety about moral identity that modern humans have in the process of social development. |
