Spoken English teaching plays an indispensable role in foreign language teaching,and it is essential to empower vocational students to improve their orally expressing ability.However,according to previous studies,the effect of Spoken English teaching in higher vocational colleges needs to be improved.Some students may become weary of spoken English because of the traditional way of instruction.Therefore,the enhancement of spoken English teaching in vocational high school is essential for the students’ oral proficiency.To solve the problem,multimodal spoken English teaching has been increasingly highlighted.The thesis focuses on the following two issues:1.What are the effects of the multimodal teaching mode on spoken English learning to vocational college students,in terms of linguistic accuracy and fluency of oral performance?2.Which multimodal coordination is more effective to the students in vocational college in the multimodal spoken English teaching mode?According to the above research questions,the author selects 85 freshmen from two parallel classes of English Majors in a higher vocational college in Shenyang as the research objects and carries out an 18-week empirical study,including tests,questionnaires and interviews.The research objects are divided into two groups,and the same materials are school-based.The experimental group received multimodal teaching mode,while the control group received traditional teaching mode.During the teaching experiment,the author conducted a pre-test and a post-test on the oral English performance of the two classes.The thesis analyzes the collected data with the help of SPSS(26.0)statistic software.The thesis draws the following conclusions:Firstly,the multimodal oral teaching mode can effectively improve students’oral ability in terms of linguistic accuracy and fluency;Secondly,the multimodal coordination of "visual+audio+writing+speaking" is more effective for students.It is hoped that this thesis has a certain reference value for the exploration and development of oral English teaching methods in higher vocational colleges and can also provide some novel ideas for the application of multimodal oral English teaching.Multimodal teaching mode should be adopted in the teaching process so as to improve students’ oral expression ability.Therefore,this study has certain theoretical and practical significance.
