Rural education has always been a weak link in Chinese education,especially in rural junior middle schools.Faced with the influence of COVID-19,English Teaching in rural junior middle schools has been changed a lot.After the epidemic,it remains a critical question whether online education that once played a huge role would have an impact on current situation in English teaching and learning or not.And undoubtedly,it has been a troublesome problem for the majority of English teachers to question and ponder in their daily life in the post-epidemic era.The present research is an investigation of English Teaching Status in Rural Junior Middle School in the Post-Epidemic Era,which is hoped to improve the situation of rural English teaching.This study mainly adopts the methods of literature review,questionnaire,interview and classroom observation.A total of 500 students and 20 teachers from three junior middle schools in Xin’ an,Mengzhou and Ruyang are investigated.In addition,there are 10 teachers and 10 students interviewed,and 10 teachers are observed in their English classes.Through the investigation and research,it is found that although teachers and students in rural junior middle schools attach great importance to English subjects and have made some achievements,there are also many problems.First,teachers are weak in their professional ability and teaching skills which is not helpful for rural junior middle school students’ English learning and the development of basic English education.Second,there are abundant electronic equipment in rural junior middle schools.But in the English class,they are not used frequently.According to the questionnaire,75% English teachers in rural junior middle schools more likely choose textbooks and blackboards.Third,students lack of confidence and willpower in learning English.According to the survey,44% of junior middle school students lack confidence in English learning.They think English is very difficult and they don’t have the ability to learn English well.Last,through this research,it will provide some guidance to English teaching and learning in the rural junior middle school in the post-epidemic era.It hopes to improve the English teaching and learning condition and to narrow the gap between rural areas and urban areas in English teaching and learning.
