Portrayal Of Serpina’s Characters In The Comic Opera La Serva Padrona

The comic opera La serva padrona created by Italian composer Giovanni Battista Pergolesi has been deeply loved by the public since it was staged in 1733.It is endowed with an epoch-making significance in the Baroque period and was reputed as the pioneering work of comic operas.This paper will explain the creation background of this opera and sort out the development process of the plot;it will analyze the character image of the heroine Serpina from two perspectives of drama image and music image,and then studies her music image with two arias"Stizzoso,mio stizzoso" and "A Serpina penserete",which highlight her distinctive personality characteristics.Based on the understanding of the composer’s creation as well as her own singing experience,the author analyzes the songs from the aspects of emotional expression,strength,language and stage performance,offering beneficial reference value for vocal music learners who learn these two arias.
