According to the English Curriculum Standards(2011)formulated by the Ministry of Education,the objectives of English teaching in primary schools are to stimulate students’ interest in learning English,cultivate students’ positive attitude towards learning English,and initially establish their confidence in learning English.General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out at the National Education Conference held in 2018 that the fundamental task of education is to cultivate people through virtue.The ideological and political work should run through the whole process of education and teaching.The Story Teaching Method combines teaching with fun,and the great truth can be found in short stories,which is in line with the requirement of the primary school students’ ideological and political thinking into the classroom.It also can stimulate students’ interest in learning English and create a lively English class,which is conducive to cultivating students’ comprehensive language ability and imperceptibly infiltrating students’ moral education.On the basis of analyzing and summarizing domestic and foreign literatures,the author studied the application of Story Teaching Method in primary school English teaching.The research subject of this study is a fourth-grade class of C primary school in a district of Shanxi Province that the author teaches.During the one-semester research,the author used the Story Teaching Method in the experimental class,while the PWP model was still adopted in the control class.This study combines qualitative and quantitative research,adopts pre-test,post-test,questionnaire,interview and class observation,and uses SPSS 25.0 to analyze and discuss the collected data to study the following three hypotheses: 1.Story Teaching Method can arouse primary students’ English learning interests.2.Story Teaching Method can improve primary students’ English achievements.3.Story Teaching Method can enhance moral penetration in primary English instruction.The author found that after the teaching experiment of one semester,the learning interest and post-test scores of students in the experimental class have been significantly improved and significantly higher than that of the control class.It is proved that Story Teaching Method can effectively improve pupils’ interest in English learning and English achievement,and let students experience the fun of English learning.At the same time,students not only to be able to read simple little story,but also understand the truth.They experience emotions in fun learning and imperceptibly enhance their values.It is hoped that the conclusions and the results of this study can provide some practical enlightenment for English teaching in primary schools,especially it combines stories with moral education.Story Teaching Method integrates English teaching with moral,intellectual,physical,aesthetic and labor,integrates English teaching with quality-oriented education,and skillfully integrates ideological and political education into the English teaching.Moisten things silently,upright tree people. |
