As an important part of junior high school English teaching,reading teaching has an important role in promoting the formation and development of students’ key competencies.However,due to the limitations of the traditional reading classroom teaching mode,some teachers mainly focus on the explanation of language knowledge points in reading classroom teaching,i.e.conveying thinking through language and words,without paying attention to the improvement of students’ thinking ability,learning ability and cultural character.How to truly achieve the educational purpose of key competencies in English is the focus and difficulty of current English reading teaching.Knowledge visualization as a new teaching tool,through the use of a variety of visualization tools,such as concept maps,mind maps,thinking maps,and other tools to present the original abstract knowledge in the form of graphic images intuitively,to facilitates the creative transmission of knowledge among students.At the same time,the use of knowledge visualization tools can foster the process of refining students’ perceptions,transforming input into output,managing and consolidating their thinking logic,and enhancing their memory and creative abilities,thus injecting new vitality and vigor into the text-based middle school English reading teaching mode.Based on the above considerations,this study explored the teaching mode of English reading in junior high school from two perspectives: key competencies and knowledge visualization.The following questions were mainly studied and answered:1)What is the current situation of teaching English reading to junior high school students? 2)How can knowledge visualization tools be applied to teaching English reading to junior high school students from the perspective of key competencies?3)Does the application of knowledge visualization tools to English reading teaching in junior high school improve junior high school students’ reading learning performance and reading learning interest,and does it have any effect on junior high school students’ key competencies level in English subject? The author selected 88 students in two classes of ninth grade in a junior high school in Harbin as the research objects,using a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods,before and after the three-month teaching experiment,using questionnaires,interviews and other methods to carry out the experiment.Experiment data and perform statistics and analysis.The results of the study show that the application of knowledge visualization to middle school reading teaching under key competencies is a proven method.The application of knowledge visualization tools in junior high school reading teaching can improve students’ reading learning performance and reading learning interest,and can effectively improve students’ language ability,thinking quality and learning ability in the key competencies of English subject in reading learning.In the context of the introduction of key competencies in English,this research combines knowledge visualization with junior high school English reading teaching,deepening the application of core literacy and at the same time,in order to provide a new perspective for English reading teaching.However,this research still has some shortcomings,such as small sample size and short teaching time.It is hoped that it can be further improved in future research.
