| In recent years, the “Buddha-like” perspective(possessing a passive attitude towards life)has been prevailing among the young generation in China, and this article—Deleuze,Nietzsche, and the overcoming of nihilism—has great reference value in curbing such a nihilistic thought. As a philosophical text with rich implications, there are abundant metaphors in the source text and a better understanding of these metaphors is crucial for an accurate translation.Under the guidance of Lakoff’s conceptual metaphor theory, the concepts behind the applied metaphors could be revealed and further understood. Thus the rich metaphorical expressions abounded in the source text could be translated with accuracy and consistency. This report has categorized and analyzed metaphors in philosophical text and proposed relevant translation methods. The priority of the report is to describe the translation of metaphors in philosophical text under the guidance of conceptual metaphor theory. The degree of overlapping between source domain and target domain of certain metaphors varies in source language and target language.Translation methods such as literal translation and free translation and various translation techniques like addition and omission are adopted to guarantee loyal translation. The metaphor translation methods can be grouped into four categories: complete preservation of metaphor, partial preservation of metaphor, omission of metaphor, and substitution of metaphor. These methods can provide guidance to metaphor translation in philosophical text, and furnish metaphor translation studies with more specific examples. |
