As for vocabulary memory,some scholars use schema theory to conduct related research from the perspective of cognitive psychology,while others study the related theory of Ebbinghaus memory rule and then discuss the its guiding significance.In the practical class teaching,however,there are only a few researches that describe how to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary memory by applying the Ebbinghaus memory rule.Therefore,this paper will conduct an empirical research.Ebbinghaus,a Germany psychologist in the late 1900 s,,conducted a study on memory problems.Then he put forward the Ebbinghaus memory forgetting curve.He believes that although the speed of forgetting is not balanced,but the forgetting of human memory follows a certain rule.Based on Ebbinghaus memory rule,the paper adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods,such as questionnaire,contrastive analysis and interviewing method and SPSS data analysis software,taking these two senior classes with high scores as the research objects to conduct teaching experiments.One class uses the traditional vocabulary teaching method,the other applies the method which is based on Ebbinghaus memory rule,to conduct a specific research.The whole research lasts for a semester.The research questions are as followed:(1)What are the factors that influence students vocabulary memory?(2)How to improve the efficiency of English vocabulary memory.(3)What is the teaching results applying the method based on Ebbinghaus memory rule?The paper is mainly done in four steps: raising question,designing the project,comparing the experiments and conclusion analysis.At the same time,the experiment shows:(1)The subjective factors that affect students’ vocabulary memory are the students’ confidence and concentration degree.The objective factor is the environment and related vocabulary usages.(2)Using the Ebbinghaus memory rule to guide our teaching,it is quite efficient for students if they can review and repeat these words after 5 minutes,30 minutes and 12 hours.(3)The analysis of experimental data shows that the vocabulary teaching method based on Ebbinghaus memory rule improves the number of vocabulary.Meanwhile,students can also get higher scores in their reading test.Last but not least,students will get more progress in their comprehensive test.This research gives a detailed description on the Ebbinghaus memory rule,and applies it into practical teaching.Then the paper provides the specific suggestions for teaching.It is truly an abundant reference for the vocabulary teaching in the future.
