Prosody is composed of features such as stress, intonation, and rhythm, and it has attracted the attention of many linguists because of its important role in oral comprehension. The changes in the characteristics of speech prosody can help the listener better understand the speaker’s semantics, mood, attitude, emotional color, personal characteristics and illocutionary meaning. It is through the changes of the prosody characteristics that the speaker realizes the expression of his own language information and the transmission of the hyperlinguistic information and nonverbal information. At present, the academic research on prosody in oral comprehension has achieved some important results, but the research on prosody in written reading comprehension is relatively lacking. The study of ambiguity has always been one of the central theories of modern linguists in elaborating linguistic theory, and it will promote the development of linguistics, especially discourse analysis. Therefore, this article discusses the causes of ambiguity in terms of vocabulary, syntax, and pragmatics from the perspective of prosody, then uses some existing linguistic theories such as implicit prosody hypothesis to discuss how speech prosody can cause ambiguity, and reveal the essence of the relationship between prosody and different language levels. The study found out that reading prosodic information can be projected onto the reading material and it affects the choice of syntactic analysis and the resolution of syntactic ambiguity. That is,when reading, readers will use prosodic features such as stress and intonation to help understand the content of the article. Moreover, the prosody processor and the syntactic processor are completely universal and congenital, and every behavioral change in every different language processing come from the different prosodic components of the grammar. In the process of silent reading, readers as the main body are always dealing with the successive language units that appear before their eyes.According to the chunks theory of short-term memory,we always keep grammatically or semantically categorizing the language units that we see,and presuppose their structural relationships. If there is a divergence in the relationship between the new language units and the structure that we have presupposed before,we will re-summarize the language units that have appeared. In this process,it may be because the mood and intonation that used by readers in silent reading are different from what the author wants to express,or it may be because the focus of a certain word or sentence, that is,the stress or pauses of the whole sentence are put onto the wrong position, which causes the pre-established structural relationship to be broken due to the subsequent emergence of new language units. At this time,it is necessary to re-establish a new relationship of presupposition. It is through the process of acceptance,of analysis,of presupposition,of re-acceptance,of re-analysis,and of re-presupposition atc,our brain has been in a very complex process of calculation and analysis, and the calculation do not stop until the silent reading is over. The study of ambiguity can not only help us improve our ability to understand and appreciate speech, but also improve our ability to use and express language. The study of ambiguity has far-reaching and important theoretical significance and practical value, and it will promote the development of linguistics, especially the development of discourse analysis. This article conducted a multi-dimensional study of the causes of ambiguity, aiming to prove that language is a unity of opposites that is multi-faceted,multi-factorial,mutually coordinated and mutually restrictive. Not only vocabulary, syntax and pragmatics can cause ambiguity, but also prosody can cause ambiguity. Therefore, the analysis of ambiguity can help us to establish a comprehensive dialectical view of language.
