English speaking is an important skill that can help senior high school students express their ideas and communicate with others.In China,the ‘National English Curriculum Standards for Senior High School’(2017)points out the requirements for high school students’ speaking ability.Moreover,the college entrance examination also has the oral test,which shows the growing importance of English speaking.However,many senior high school students’ speaking abilities are not good enough because of many reasons,among which the emotional factor is one of the causes that can’t be ignored.Speaking anxiety is a main part among the emotional factors.Many previous studies have concluded that speaking anxiety has a negative impact on students’ speaking.As a result,how to alleviate students’ speaking anxiety is a hot issue in the field of English speaking research.Ecological classroom is a novel educational concept that considers students,the teacher,classroom environment,teaching material,classroom activities and assessments as a whole ecological system and aims to establish a harmonious teaching model that caters to the principle of ecology.Under this teaching model,students’ emotion status will be improved than that in traditional teaching model.Therefore,the author aimed to explore the effect of ecological classroom on alleviating senior high school students’ English speaking anxiety and find better way to apply ecological classroom model to English speaking teaching.In the study,the author adapted Kang’s Instructional Design(ID)framework for foreign language teaching(FLT)and followed the principle of ecological education to construct an ecological English speaking class model and present the sample class.The research subjects are 59 students from Senior one in a senior high school.During the experiment,the study aims to answer the following questions: 1)What is the current situation of senior middle school students’ English speaking anxiety? 2)What are the effects of ecological classroom on alleviating students’ English speaking anxiety in senior middle school? 3)How to apply the ecological classroom model to alleviate students’ speaking anxiety?To answer those questions,the author collected data by using the questionnaires adapted from Horwitz’s Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale(FLCAS)and Balemir’s Foreign Language Speaking Anxiety Scale(FLSAS);the interviews before and after the experiment;and the classroom observation form.After the experiment,the author used SPSS 19.0 to analyze the quantitative data,and present the qualitative data in the thesis.The results of the experiment are: 1)The current English speaking anxiety level of senior high school students is high.2)Speaking teaching based on the ecological classroom model is effective to alleviate students’ English speaking anxiety in senior high school.The author also gave some suggestions to apply the ecological classroom model in English speaking class. |
