| The dual-processing theory believes that, compared with intuitive processing, analytical processing requires more cognitive resources.Previous studies have manipulated different cognitive load and time pressure to control cognitive resources, and found that cognitive load and time pressure have varying degrees of impact on intuition and analytical processing. It needs to be pointed out that the influence of cognitive load and time pressure on intuition and analytical processing in these studies is based on familiar schemas. So under the unfamiliar schema, what will be the impact of cognitive load and time pressure on intuition and analytical processing? Will unfamiliar schemas give priority to more cognitive resources to process schemas?Based on it,this study explores the characteristics of intuition and analysis processing in familiar and unfamiliar Chinese character schemas by manipulating cognitive load and time pressure. The familiar Chinese character schema selects the true characters that are common in daily life, and the unfamiliar Chinese character schema selects fake characters. The fake characters are formed by moving one or two strokes on the basis of the true characters. The strokes and structure are kept in harmony. The real word is the same. The study consists of 5 interconnected experiments.Experiment 1 first explores the influence of different Chinese character schemas on intuition and analytical processing. It turns out that there are significant differences between intuition and analysis under the familiar Chinese character schema, while under the unfamiliar Chinese character schema, the difference between intuition and analysis disappears. This shows that the unfamiliar Chinese character schema may attract more people.Cognitive resources. On the base of Experiment 1,Experiment 2(divided into Experiments 2a and 2b)further explores the influence of the familiarity of Chinese character schemas on intuition and analytical processing by manipulating cognitive load.Specifically,Experiment 2a explores the influence of cognitive load on intuition and analytical processing under the familiar Chinese character schema. The results found that cognitive load has a significant impact on intuition and analytical processing to varying degrees, which is consistent with previous studies. It shows that under the familiar Chinese character schema, cognitive resources are allocated to the process of intuition and analysis.Experiment 2b explores the impact of cognitive load on intuition and analytical processing under unfamiliar Chinese character schemas. It turns out that cognitive load has no significant effect on intuition and analytical processing. This may be because unfamiliar Chinese character schemas preferentially capture cognitive resources, which leads to cognitive load that doesn’t have an effect on intuition processing or analytical processing. This also further verifies the results of Experiment1.The unfamiliar Chinese character schema attracts more cognitive resources. On the basis of Experiment 1,Experiment 3(divided into Experiments 3a and 3b)further explores the influence of the familiarity of Chinese character schema on intuition and analytical processing by manipulating time pressure.Experiment 3a explores the influence of time pressure on intuition and analytical processing under the familiar Chinese character schema. It turns out that time pressure has a significant impact on intuition and analytical processing, which is also consistent with previous research results, and shows that under the familiar schema, more cognitive resources are allocated to intuition and analytical processing.Experiment 3b explores the influence of time pressure on intuition and analytical processing under unfamiliar Chinese character schemas. It turns out that time pressure also has a significant impact on intuition and analytical processing.Even under unfamiliar Chinese character schemas, cognitive resources can be allocated to intuition and analytical processing. In summary, this study investigates the influence of the familiarity of Chinese character schemas on intuition and analytical processing through five experiments. The study finds that compared with familiar schemas, the difference between intuition processing and analytical processing is weakened under unfamiliar schemas, which indicates that cognitive resources may be prioritized to the processing of unfamiliar schemas. The phenomenon that unfamiliar schemas preferentially capture cognitive resources has been further confirmed by the introduction of cognitive load manipulation. However, this phenomenon has not been confirmed under time pressure, which shows that whether unfamiliar schemas can first capture cognitive resources depends on the urgency of time. |
