A Study Of Hao Jing And Xu Hou Han Shu

Hao Jing(1223-1275),the courtesy name Bo Chang,a person from Yuan Dynasty Lingchuan,Zezhou(now Lingchuan,Shanxi).He was an important statesman,philosopher,writers,historians.Hao Jing was also an important person among the Hans Confucian scholars who were under Hu Bilie in the early Yuan Dynasty.Hao Jing came from a Confucian family.He studied hard since childhood,and learned well.He not only inherited the tradition of Jin Dynasty classics,but also presented diversity and particularity in academic thought influenced by Southern Song Neo-Confucianism.In these contexts,Hao Jing was different from ordinary philosophers who talk about rationality.He pursued "useful learning",a pragmatic style of study and a practical view of learning.These all affect Hao Jing’s historical thought,especially Hao Jing’s orthodoxy,Confucian historical view and Yi Xia’s view,which are embodied in his compilation of the Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty.Hao Jing’s works are rich in all his life,but only two works,namely Lingchuan Collection and the Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty were handed down.The Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty is a representative work of Hao Jing’s historiography.The book consists of 90 volumes.It is an important work in the Song and Yuan dynasties and the Northern revision of the history of the three Kingdoms.The Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty embodies Hao Jing’s historical thought.Hao Jing respected the state of Shu and belated the state of Wei,which was recognized by the government of Yuan Dynasty.In the view of classics and history,Hao Jing advocated the combination of classics and history,which improved the status of historiography in the early Yuan Dynasty.Hao Jing’s historical thought and compilation method have the characteristics of the times and are worth exploring.At present,studies are more inclined to explore the achievements of Hao Jing in politics,literature,Neo-Confucianism and so on.Therefore,the study of Hao Jing’s thought of governing history is helpful to enrich and perfect the study of Hao Jing,and at the same time,it is useful to see the development of the history of the early Yuan Dynasty through the example of Hao Jing.On the basis of previous studies,this study aims to investigate Hao Jing and his historical works,The Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty.This paper introduces Hao Jing’s life and academic experience,and analyzes the influence of his life experience and academic origin on his historical thought.This paper shows details on the process,version,circulation and content structure of the book,summarizes the compilation characteristics of the book,and sums up the historical thought contained therein.Finally,the historical thought of Hao Jing and its influence on later generations are concluded.This paper discusses Hao Jing’s historical thought and his historical work " The Continued History of the Later Han Dynasty " from many aspects for the purpose of drawing a deeper conclusion.
