Facial expressions are very important non-verbal emotional stimuli, which are the indicator of the underlying emotional state.Recognition of the emotion of facial expressions is crucial for interpersonal communication.Micro-expressions are special facial expressions with a very short duration, which reveal one’s repressed or hidden emotions. As they are difficult to restrain, and widely used in the fields of safety, justice and clinical medicine, they have always been an important field of research by scholars at home and abroad.Micro-expressions are always in a certain situation. As an important situational factor of expression recognition, verbal information often appears with expressions to express one’s emotional feelings, and plays a very important role in individual interpersonal communication. Therefore, the study of micro-expression recognition in the context of verbal information is helpful for us to understand the recognition mechanism of micro-expressions better. In the first study,BART paradigm was used to complete two tasks of micro-expression recognition with and without verbal information. We would like to investigate the differences in micro-expression recognition between individuals with and without verbal information,as well as the influence of the consistency between verbal information and micro-expression type on micro-expression recognition. In the second study,event-related potentials technique was used to further explore whether the influence of verbal information on micro-expressions was reflected in the early ERP processing stage. The ERP component differences in micro-expression recognition with and without verbal information and the effect of verbal information and micro-expression type consistency on the ERP component in micro-expression recognition were investigated. The results of study 1 showed that there were differences in the accuracy and response time of micro-expression in the presence and absence of verbal information.Compared with the condition without verbal information, when verbal information and micro-expression are consistent, the recognition of micro-expression will be promoted. When verbal information and micro-expression are not consistent, the recognition of micro-expression will be inhibited. The main effect of micro-expressions was significant. The recognition accuracy of disgust micro-expressions was the highest, which showed negative cognitive bias. The results of study 2 showed that N100,P1 and N170 components were induced by three kinds of micro-expression stimuli under three experimental conditions.Compared with non-verbal information, the recognition of micro-expressions with verbal information induced larger amplitude P1 and N100.The incubation period of N170 in the absence of verbal information was significantly shorter than that in the presence of verbal information. It is concluded that verbal information can affect the recognition of micro-expression,and there are concordant effect and negative bias effect. In the presence and absence of verbal information, there are differences in the early visual processing of micro-expression recognition. This study has improved the research on the influencing factors of micro-expression recognition, broadened the empirical research of the local database, filled in the blank of the research on the neural mechanism of micro-expression recognition, and provided a reference for the application of micro-expression recognition.
