Research On Aristotelian Political Philosophy

Aristotle lived in an era when the slavery of the ancient Greek city-state was full of crisis.He came from the wealthy class of slave owners and was a staunch supporter of the city-state slavery.In the face of the declining slavery society,he actively explored excellent political policies to restore stable and harmonious social order determines that his political philosophy is centered on the city-state system.On the basis of in-depth investigation and analysis of the political realities of ancient Greek city-states,Aristotle critically inherited the political thoughts of ancient Greek sages,constructed a political philosophy that combined political science and ethics,and opened up the western tradition of practical philosophy.This article mainly researches from four aspects:The first part mainly studies the theoretical origin and historical background of Aristotle’s political philosophy.Its theoretical sources mainly include Socratic’s political philosophy thought,Plato’s political philosophy thought and Solon’s justice thought.The second part mainly studies the main content of Aristotle’s political philosophy.It is national thought includes the origin and function of the city-state,the national interest comes first,the Middle-class republic,and the conditions for establishing an ideal city-state.It is democratic thought includes that the majority opinion determines political decision and economic equality is the basis of democracy.It is thought of rule of law includes the rule of law is superior to rule of man,the way of realizing the rule of law,the separation of powers and checks and balances.It is thought of rule of virtue includes the Golden Mean of excellence,advocating fairness and justice,affirming the rights of citizens and so on.The third part mainly studies the influence and limitation of Aristotle’s political philosophy.Aristotle’s political philosophy has influenced some western political thinkers and the construction of western democratic political system;the limitations of his political philosophy are mainly reflected in the narrow theory of citizens and city-states and the backward theory of political rights.The fourth part mainly studies the contemporary value of Aristotle’s political philosophy.It is political philosophy enlighten that our country should insist on the combination of ruling the country by law and ruling the country by virtue,further improve our country’s democratic system,construct a reasonable social class structure,correctly handle the relationship between collective and individual interests,and establish a harmonious socialist society.
