A Study Of Modern Hunan New Poetry(1918-1949)

On September 15,1918,Chen Hengzhe published the first vernacular poem in the history of modern hunan new poetry,which named “ I was said to be crazy ”,when she was in America.It marked the beginning of the creations of modern hunan new poetry.The writing course of modern hunan new poetry was generally synchronized with the process of Chinese modern new poetry,presenting distinct periodical characteristics.In the 1920s(1918-1927),some poets formed their own writing style through continuous exploration.A large number of literary newspapers and periodicals in hunan had published new poems.In the 1930s(1928-1937),their creations showed a trend of breaking through the adversity.The associations and publications had achieved a long-term development because of the assistant of previous abundant results.Moreover,the community activities for student groups had reached its peck.In the 1940s(1938-1949),modern hunan poets met the life-throb of ages,writing the main theme of revolution and fight in their poems.Modern hunan poets was a special creation group influenced by hunan regional culture and historical background.Their works contained the common characteristic of the time,regional features and their own personality,which presented in the theme and art style of their poems.The theme of modern hunan new poetry was rich,mainly concentrated on the governance of the State and the anxiety of current affairs,love and marriage,parting and missing,nature and life.Modern hunan poets exposed the social darkness and injustice in their poems,expressing their concern for the people at the bottom and feelings of defending the country.They also delivered their love values to readers through the description of the desire and pursuit of love,the pain of love,the criticism of arranged marriage.In order to relieve the sad mood in their heart,the poets wrote some poems whose theme was about nature and life.They also expressed their sadness and optimism of parting,homesickness in poems.With the rapid change of the times,their works were integrated with the sense of responsibility and responsibility for the “ Family-country ”.In artistic style,modern hunan new poetry presented the characteristics of romantic fantasy,fresh and meaningful,vigorous and simple.Many dialects and spoken languages were used in poetry.Modern hunan poets created romantic artistic conception by using fantasy imagination,classical mythology,exaggeration,metaphor and other rhetorical devices.The fresh and meaningful style was mainly manifested in the use of language,the choice of images,and the pursuit of a “aftertaste” on the content.Modern hunan new poetry constantly drew nutrients from hunan spiritual character while inheriting the tradition,and also integrated the new connotation of it.Poets also kept close interaction with the times,responding to the tide of the revolutionary movement.Thus,some of their works mainly described the revolutionary struggle and showed a better propagandavalue.At the same time,the modern hunan poets recorded the important moments of the revolutionary movement and struggle in the form of real record or artistic processing.They reflected the history with the new poems,so that the modern hunan new poems have certain historical data value or reference value.In addition,the characteristics of modern hunan new poetry language,spiritual quality and theme writing have been continued in the creation of contemporary hunan poets.
