With the advancement of globalization,the communication and cooperation among different countries and regions keep on skyrocketing.Interpreter,a role in bridging the relationship among different parties,is increasingly important.Besides,with the thriving development of international trade and investment,business negotiation interpreting is becoming a more and more important part.As a part of interpretation,business negotiation interpreting has the characteristics that most kinds of interpretation have,such as the instantaneity of source language and the extemporaneity of organization of the target language.Meanwhile,it also has its own characteristics,such as a variety of professional terminologies,a wide range of professional fields,high accuracy requirements and the demand for sufficient knowledge of business and foreign trade.China,whose economy develops rapidly,has involved itself in more and more international investment and trade.EU-China Business & Technology cooperation fair is a platform which promotes the trade and cooperation between EU members and China.The author is very appreciated to have the opportunity to offer interpreting service for this Fair.Combined with the features of business negotiation interpreting,this paper is guided by the Interpretive Theory,which divided interpreting process into three steps.The first step is comprehension,which means that interpreters should grasp the meaning of the source language,making use of language ability as well as cognitive ability.The second step is deverbalization.In business negotiation interpreting,with strong instantaneity,the source language disappears as soon as the speaker finishes his sentences.Therefore,interpreters are required to break the language form and remember the meaning of source language.The third step is reformulation.After grasping the meaning of the source language,interpreters should organize the interpreting version,taking the background and environment of the listeners into consideration.The concept of the Interpretive Theory coincides with the characteristics of business negotiation interpreting,which has many professional terms and involves a wide range of specialties.It is very necessary for interpreters to have certain industrial knowledge,thus helping interpreters to fully understand the source language.Besides,the strong instantaneity of business negotiation interpreting requires interpreters to give an accurate and refined interpreting version in a short time.So interpreters should grasp the meaning of the source language instead of focusing on the language structure of the source language and expressing it into target language that conforms to the background of the listeners.Taking the interpreter’s business negotiation interpreting practice on the EU-China Business to Business Matchmaking Symposium of the 13 th EU-China Business & Technology Cooperation Fair as research material,this report dwells on four parts,concerning introduction to this interpreting task,preparation work of this interpreting task,difficulties and coping tactics in this task and reflections and feedback.This report will explore and analyze the problems encountered in the practice and feasible countermeasures for these issues will be put forward under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory combining with the characteristics of business negotiation interpreting.Throughout the development of this thesis,the author got a conclusion that the guidance of the Interpretive Theory in business negotiation interpreting is necessary and meaningful.Under the guidance of the Interpretive Theory,the accuracy and quality of interpreting version were improved with the application of interpreting skills and strategies.During the interpreting process,the author encountered many external problems caused by speakers.Except for these external problems,the author also encountered some internal problems that needed to be improved,for example,the insufficient ability of note-taking.This study can be very meaningful for the author’s future interpreting career;in turn,the author also hopes to provide feasible reference and inspiration for business negotiation interpreting for peers.
