In recent years,with the extensive use of multimedia technology and diversified ways of receiving information,auditory social symbolic,visual social symbolic resources and tactile social symbolic resources have been extensively engaged in the construction of meaning.The pedagogy of Multiliteracies refers to a teaching method that aims to cultivate students’ multiliteracies by means of multiple symbol system,such as multiple modal forms including sound,image,language,or painting and so on,which regards students as the main body in the class.This study is about the application of the Pedagogy of Multiliteracies to the college English listening teaching for the PE Majors and Art Majors.The subjects were 80 freshmen of PE Major from a University of Science and Technology,and the experimental period was implemented for a semester.Attempting to answer the following two research hypotheses,the author adopted the pedagogy of multiliteracies,which is based on the concept of “design” and the four steps of overt instruction,situated practice,critical framing,and transformed practice proposed by the New London Group.(1)The multiliteracies pedagogy can improve the English listening scores of Art major and PE major students.(2)The multiliteracies pedagogy can improve multiliteracies ability of Art major and PE major students.Through the comparison between traditional English listening class and multiliteracies English listening teaching class,the author discusses the positive influence of multiliteracies pedagogy on English listening scores and mutiliterarcies of PE major students and Art major students.This study adopted the methods of experimental research,questionnaires and interview,with the collected data analyzed by SPSS23.0.The experimental result shows that the above hypotheses are available.On the one hand,students’ English listening scores has been improved.Teachers can use multimodal resourcesin listening teaching to help students understand the content of the text.On the other hand,students’ English multiliteracies ability has been developed,mainly manifested in the ability to apply technology on produce works,the ability to understand the literacy resources in textbooks,the ability to use literacy resources on the Internet,online and offline collaboration and communication ability.Application of multiliteracies pedagogy in English listening teaching in PE major and Art major students is feasible.This study will provide a reference for teachers to improve college English listening teaching methods and help students to develop their multiliteracies. |
