| The narrow concept of teaching materials means the textbook.In this paper,we talk about the textbook,which is referred as the narrow concept of teaching materials.The textbook is the important part of English teaching and it is also the main medium of teaching and studying.A set of English textbooks of high quality is the guarantee on improving English teaching.Under the effect of the new curriculum reform and the New National English Curriculum Standards(NECS),there were more clear directions about how to design and edit English textbooks.Some presses updated the former English textbooks and some presses published new editing English textbooks.Until now,there are at least ten versions of English textbooks.Whether these versions can match the requirement of NECS? Which one can improve students’ comprehensive language application ability to the great extent? If these questions can’t be solved,teachers may miss some teaching contents during teaching,and they may also adopt an unreasonable way to teach English.The author take PEP Version and Yi’Lin Version Junior English textbooks as the research objects of this paper.With doing comparative study of these two sets of versions based on NECS,the author gets the conclusion on whether these two versions fit the requirement of NECS and give suggestions on how to use the textbooks in a good way and how to improve the textbooks.This paper adopts the Internal Evaluation and the External Evaluation to do the research on these two versions of English textbooks.The author uses the Method of Content Analysis when doing the Internal Evaluation.Starting with the curriculum concept,design ideas and general objectives in the NECS,this paper analyzes them one by one from seven dimensions: textbook compilation concept,designideas,language skills and so on.When doing External Evaluation,the author uses the Questionnaire Survey Method.The author gives out the questionnaires to the local teachers and students to get the feedback after using the textbooks.Then,the author adopts Comparative Research to compare the two sets of versions to find out their common points,differences and their own disadvantages.At the last part,the author give more suggestions about how to use these two sets of textbooks properly and how to improve these two sets of textbooks.The result says that both of the two sets of textbooks can meet the general goal of NECS.Two sets of English textbooks have their own characteristics,such as PEP Version attaches importance to listening and speaking training,and reading guidance;Yi’Lin Version pays attention to the relationship between unit topics,and specially sets up the module of learning strategy.Of course,the two sets of textbooks also have their own shortcomings,such as the placement of phonetic knowledge in PEP Version is not conducive to students’ learning;Yi’Lin Version lacks the penetration of Chinese traditional culture.For the use of these two textbooks,the author gives the following suggestions: teachers should correctly understand the factions of the textbooks;aware good points and shortcomings of the two visions and use them and other teaching recourse flexibly;relocate the role of teachers and help students get multiple skills;study NECS and know the relationship between textbooks and NECS.For the compilation of textbooks,the author gives the following suggestions:integrating the learning system of phonetic knowledge into textbook activities;balancing the proportion of Chinese culture and western culture;adopting the combination of indirect infiltration and thematic study to cultivate learning strategies. |
