| Grammar plays a significant role in English learning in senior high school.However,traditional grammar teaching methods emphasize teaching rules before practicing,such as the application of induction and deduction.There are still a lot of students who couldn’t write sentences with correct grammatical structure.It is extremely important to choose an effective teaching method to cultivate students’ interest in grammar and improve their grammar level.Anchored Instruction insists that the aim of teaching is to help students to establish learning process in a complex context through autonomous learning and collaborative learning.It emphasizes situational,proactive,and interactive learning,and encourages students to learn in real situations.This study conducts an inquiry into the effect of Anchored Instruction in English grammar teaching in senior high school.The following two questions are discussed:Question 1: What is the effect of Anchored Instruction on the students’ grammar learning score in senior high school?Question 2: What is the change of students’ attitude towards grammar under the guidance of Anchored Instruction?The study lasts four months.Participants in this experiment include 90 students from two classes in Grade 2 from Xi’an Number 82 Senior High School in Shaanxi province.Students of Experimental Class receive Anchored Instruction,while Control Class receives traditional teaching.Questionnaires,grammatical tests and interviews are conducted for quantitative and qualitative research.Before the experiment,a questionnaire is conducted to find out whether there is a significant difference in students’ attitudes towards grammar between the two classes.After the experiment,the same questionnaire as well as an interview is conducted in the Experimental Class to test whether Anchored Instruction can improve students’ learning attitude towards grammar.Two parallel classes are tested before and after the experiment to check whether the two classes have a significant difference in grammar level before the experiment,and whether the grammar scores improved after the experiment.Finally,the data are analyzed by SPSS19.0 software.The data analysis of the two grammar tests shows that Anchored Instruction is beneficial to improve students’ grammar scores.Through the comparative analysis of questionnaires and interviews,it shows that many students’ attitudes towards grammar learning have improved significantly.Furthermore,teachers should constantly update their teaching methods and transform their roles in class teaching to make Anchored Instruction exert its best effect.Students need take part in the classroom activities to improve their abilities of autonomous learning and cooperative learning.Teachers are required to evaluate classroom activities and students’ performance after class. |
