| Tang poetry is the peak of Chinese classical poetry.Image is not only the foundation of poetry, the container of the artistic conception which is the soul of classical poetry, but also the significant carrier of poetry aesthetics.Tang poetry is the essence of Chinese classical poetry, and its images are naturally the most important component of the essence. How to reconstruct images in poetry translation, retain the beauty of original images, and better display the beauty of images and artistic conception in Chinese classical poetry has become the focus and difficulty in poetry translation.Xu Yuanchong,as a contemporary Chinese translator, has made great achievements in literary translation. His literary translation theory contains unique aesthetic translation ideas, and the resulting English version of 300 Tang Poems applies the aesthetic concepts in poetry translation to the extreme. There are many achievements in the study of poetry translation, but few articles focus on image reconstruction in the process of poetry translation from an aesthetic perspective. From the perspective of image reconstruction in poetry translation, this thesis attempts to provide some reference for image reconstruction in poetry translation from the perspective of aesthetics by analyzing 300 Tang Poems translated by Xu Yuanchong. In this thesis, the corresponding aesthetic perspective is derived from the inverse deduction of image characteristics.Through the case study, and with descriptive research method, the image reconstruction in the translation of Tang poetry is analyzed in-depth,including the reconstruction of natural images, the reconstruction of human-related images and the reconstruction of mythological images, and the aesthetic collision in image reconstruction is further specified: the reconstructed spatial beauty, the sensory beauty and the artistic conception beauty under the combination of images. This thesis consists of four major analysis chapters. In the second chapter, through the interpretation of “image” and Xu Yuanchong’s translation aesthetics, the related concepts and the reasonableness of the thesis would be sorted out.The chapters from three to five analyze the aesthetic reconstruction of different types of images in Xu Yuanchong’s translation:In the process of aesthetic reconstruction of natural images, equivalent words are the main body of reconstruction to achieve the most basic faithfulness. On this basis, the spatial beauty and sensory beauty of the original image are enhanced by means of compensation. In the aesthetic reconstruction of human-related images,it is still based on equivalent words, reducing the excessive intervention of translation methods and emphasizing the restoration of the overall beauty of artistic conception. In the process of mythological image reconstruction, the image based on the object is still reconstructed by the way of “compensation + equivalent words”,while the mythological image is only reconstructed in general to make it better integrated into the overall artistic conception.Based on the analysis above,a conclusion on image reconstruction from the perspective of aesthetics has been drawn as follows:First, equivalent words could be selected in the target language as the subject of image reconstruction to achieve the most basic faithfulness.Secondly, with equivalent words as the main body, through the increase and decrease of words, the spatial aesthetic feeling and sensory aesthetic feeling in the original image are reconstructed, which makes the reconstructed image better fit the artistic conception of the original poem.Third, reconstructing the essence of the original image could be achieved through purposeful deviation, ignoring the unfamiliar cultural information in the image,to express the artistic conception better. |
