On The Impact Of Schema Theory On Medical Interpreting-CI Practice Report On 2020 7th Jinan Gynecological Seminar

This paper is a report on the practice of interpretation from Chinese to English.On the basis of the practice of interpreting at the 7th Jinan Gynecological Seminar in July,2020,the author describes the interpreting task,and analyzes the guiding role of schema theory on working memory,listening and comprehension and the quality of interpreting.On top of this,the author also gives advice to future medical interpreting task.The report mainly consists of four parts,task description,literature review,cases and role of schema theory and conclusion.First of all,the author introduces the content of the meeting,pre-task preparation and interpreting process,demonstrates the potentially positive impact of schema theory on medical interpreting.Then the author summarizes research abroad and at home on medical interpretation,schema theory and interpreting cognition,analyzes the improvement of schema theory to interpreting process,especially to interpreting in specified field like medicine.The third part is the demonstration of cases in the interpretation task and the guiding role of schema theory.The author believes that the guidance of schema theory helps interpreters better recognize source language and form schemata before the output,thus enhancing listening and comprehension by utilizing top-down and bottom-up models;during the interpreting process,the work done in the preparation stage quickly stimulates schemata in the working memory model,so as to reduce memory load and better re-code new information;schema theory can also enhance the accuracy,fluency and simplicity of interpreting output by swiftly arranging schemata and forming a simpler and more consistent logic.The author in the final chapter summarizes her findings,understanding and observation in this practice report,so as to contribute to the medical interpreting in the foreseeable future.
