The Chinese New Period(1978-1989)was the climax of the creation of Zhi Qing literature. Many writers focused on the physical and mental conditions of Zhi Qing from the perspective of illness, providing a unique way for Zhi Qing literature to reflect the experience of Zhi Qing in the special era and to express individual sentiment and ethics.Illness awareness in Zhi Qing novels during this period is derived from the tradition of writing about illness in Chinese modern and contemporary novels on the one hand, and is closely related to the complex environment of the times on the other.Writers not only focus on the expression of individual experiences of Zhi Qing, but also turn their keen attention to the physically disabled society. Many novels about the youth in the Chinese New Period contain a wide variety of symptoms of illnesses and imply complex and profound meanings, such as deformed characters, morbid social environment and extraordinary literary themes. In the characterization, both physical and psychological diseases cause physical and mental torture, depression and pain to different degrees, and reflect the unshakable social environment from the side.In this situation, human family, friendship and love suffer a crisis of trust. At the same time, the writer’s depiction of human alienation, loneliness and depression due to human indifference, social evil and the lack of love goes beyond the appearance of illness to reveal the theme of morbidity. In terms of artistic technique, metaphor is used as a means of symbolic expression, through dissonance, allegory and absurdity.Writers portrayed the reality of the young people’s uncertainty and depression from the high revolutionary enthusiasm in the early stage of "going to the mountains and going to the countryside" to the loss of personal ideals and values. In essence, this is also a psychological transformation of the revolutionary concept and human attitude of Zhi Qing before and after the whole movement. When the writers portray the intellectuals’ awareness of the absurdity of history in the form of imaginary diseases,it is natural that the search for an independent sense of life becomes the key to life, and they learn from their experiences and reconstruct their moral value system and self-identity.In addition, the writer constructs a complex space of illness in a modern way.For instance,Zhi Qing’s spatial changes from the "center" to the "periphery",the transitional "marginal" space with creativity between the two,the "alternative space" with duality, and the "dream space" as well. All of them reflect the specificity of the space to which the youth belong in another way. There are multiple ethical relationships between the space of illness and human subjectivity, and the non-normal social environment is prone to the crisis of family ethics, social ethics and historical ethics. As a kind of universal crisis reflected in the novels of Zhi Qing, the writers take this opportunity to rebel against the traditional unreasonable ethical norms and to explore the value and meaning of individual life through reflecting on the ethics of individual life.
