| The author have worked as an intern in Taizhou Xinghan Translation Company in 2019,focusing on the Chinese translation of REGULATION(EU)NO 910/2014 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 23 July 2014.After the practice, the author realized that translation is not only the conversion between two languages, but also the logical thinking activity between two languages. Therefore, this practical research report aims to clarify that logical analysis is a trump card of translators.Translation should combine linguistic analysis with logical analysis in order to make sense not only in language but also in logic. This paper first introduces the background of the translation practice and the process of the task.On this basis, the different logic styles between English and Chinese languages are sorted out.English speakers and Chinese speakers are different in both thinking and language expression.English speakers pay more attention to internal logic and express themselves more rationally.Chinese speakers,on the other hand, pay more attention to external logic and express their feelings more emotionally. Therefore, there are many expressions that do not conform to the logic of the target language. On this basis, the author makes an analysis of the long sentences in the original text, especially the sentences with when clause, and finds that there are three main logical problems involved in when clause,including:(1)the simultaneity and the continuation of the verbs in main and subordinate clauses;(2)the reference in clauses;(3)the coherence between sentences. The author finds that in general, the syntactic structure and logical order of the original text should be followed as much as possible, but in special cases, the dialectical unity of "principle and flexibility" is needed. That is,on basis of connotation of the word when, translator should combine the internal logic and external logic of the source text to reveal the logic between clauses so that the semantic and clause order can be adjusted logically. The logic strategies are as follows:(1)Sequence of time concept, which means clarifying the simultaneous or continuous relations between the verbs in the main and subordinate clauses;(2)Integration of semantic concept, which means the translation of the words in when clause should be combined with the whole context and kept consistent with the context;(3)Sufficiency of condition concept, which means translator should dig out the hypothetical concept implied in when clause;(4)Accuracy of correlation concept, which means that if the correlation between the main and subordinate clause sometimes can not be reflected in a specific conjunction,it is necessary to make clear the correlation between the words and clauses. This study solves the E-C translation problem of when clause in R(EU)NO 910/2014.These results have certain reference value for legal documents translation, and also have certain guiding significance for related topic research. |
