Evaluative Research On Abstract Translation Of Chinese Electric Power Journals

English abstract is of great significance for international academic exchanges.In China,the development of academic achievements in the field of electric power has been paid much attention,while the research on abstract translation in this field is very limited.In this thesis,an evaluative research on abstract translation of Chinese electric power journals is conducted.The aim of this research is to find out and analyze the current status of abstract translation in this field and provide feasible methods to deal with the existing problems so as to promote the abstract translation and facilitate the international exchanges of domestic academic achievements in the field of electric power.In this thesis,a small size of corpus is firstly developed by collecting 100 Chinese and 100 English abstracts from three core Chinese electric electric power journals,and then research data are obtained by managing the collected corpus with the help of Santos’five-move model.At last,statistical and textual analysis is conducted on the basis of Chesterman’s translation norm theory,including the analysis at the macro level and that at the micro level.Research results show that at the macro level,a majority of the translation products unfold according to the move sequence of B-O-M-R-D,whether the five moves are complete or not,and moves of research object,research method and research result can be recognized as the stable moves.At the micro level,there exist some problems in the abstract translation including inappropriate translation of abbreviations,digital data information,category words and word choice at the lexical level.Verbs in the present tense are the most frequently used and the application of the passive voice is the most frequent method to organize sentences.In the end,both the grammar method of reference and the lexical method of repetition are analyzed,and it is found that the problem of inconsistency should be avoided as possible.On the basis of Chesterman’s translation norm theory,adequate statistics and solid theoretical guidance have enabled the research results to present the current status about the abstract translation of Chinese electric power journals and provide reference for future improvement of the abstract translation in this field.
